Denver's Residential Pot Grow Houses
New story from KUSA out of Denver
Maybe PWHerr has seen it. KUSA 9News in Denver recently found itself on the trail of a great story, but the trail also lead through an ethical minefield. The station's investigative reporter Jace Larson learned that Colorado's medicinal marijuana laws allow licensed growers to cultivate pot for customers holding prescriptions, but nobody anticipated what would happen next. The station learned that the growers are raising plants in their homes. Right there in neighborhoods, in high-end gated communities and neighbors have no clue. The station gained the trust of a grower who allowed cameras in his house, showing a stunningly elaborate ventilation, lighting and irrigation system. The station, with the help of local law enforcement, gained a list of all of the licensed grow operations in the Denver area. Armed with this information, the station could easily have built an interactive map, showing anybody who wanted to know, where the pot is growing. But V.P. for News Patti Dennis worried that information would make the grow houses a target for criminals. So KUSA had to balance those concerns against the mission of journalism, to find information and tell it as fully as possible. To make things more complicated, as soon as the station aired a promo about the upcoming story, Drug Enforcement Agents raided the home of the key character in the story and arrested him for growing more pot than he was licensed to grow. In Colorado, pot growers can grow up to six plants for each patient they are licensed to serve. The video pops right up on the station's player. The law is so new and so vague. They have "busted" a few where I live and had to let them go. They pass this and then have no clue where the line is. They should have had all the rules laid out before they passed this IMO. This guy said he had 13 prescriptions at 6 plants ea that's 78 plants. They will end up letting him go also.

I remember when I was moving to SLC. I drove my Uhaul up, towing my truck. On my last night before the home stretch, I stayed outside of Denver. It happened to be election night, and I was watching the news. Apparently, Denver voters had just voted to pass a law making pot legal. Some state official was on the news and asked by the anchor to comment, and he said something like, "the last time I checked, Denver was in Colorado, and pot is still illegal in Colorado."

Watch the movie Super High Me.
Good, funny. It's not this way now, but Cali went through some crazy stuff for a few years after they legalized it for medical use. Feds raiding stores and seizing everything, then operators having to foot the bill to replace their computers and product, but being allowed to open back up right away. It was dumb. Went round and round like that for a few years. Colorado probably going to have some "growing" pains, too. (Ha! My second bad pun of he day! Cha-ching!)

No doubt.
"I want to be invisible" conflicts with his need to be on TV whenever he can. He can probably expect a little blowback from every other grower making big money. Anybody doing basic math knows he doesn't make almost $1.5 million on 13 customers a year.

For real.
I guess he couldn't resist showing off his sweeeet beard on state-wide TV. I like that they specifically mention that he has no cameras or security. Attention, the 3 million people in and around Denver: if you see this guy out somewhere, follow him home.
