I was diagnosed three years (diabetes) and I have always felt they (doctors) were more or less "still learning as they went along" but if your bloodsugar is not maintained correctly you can lose your vision, lose a limb and wake up in the middle of the night screaming that your leg hurts.

Keep your sugar level down (test regularly) go out and walk everyday if you can and listen to what your doctor says. Good luck with it. It IS beatable.

Well. After a few weeks of diabetes mgmt classes, I have to say I can definetly tell the difference. Label reading was a huge eye opener for me. Which changed the way I cook. Bottom line. Stay out of the ailes unless u are getting a healthy cereal.

reading your last post ,
i can tell you had to lose 15 lbs
for an op
in 3 months-lol
basically had to cut out every item in the grocery store
that had a label that had
corn starch in it- which is A LOT
( I.E. - all baked goods , white bread , most cereal , most prepared food ,
75 % of snack food , etc)
just learn to change your habits ..
and all pop (sugar)
drank a lot of crystal light

wasn't hard to get used to ..

just enjoy my rum and cokes (pop)
on vacations now

: )

Neither.

Good that you got some "label reading training". When I shop I basically pick up things that will hurt me very little even if I overeat at times. Sugar free jello, diet soft drinks, etc. That for me has been my "best weapon" against it is keeping the stuff that will do damage (ice cream, orange juice) out of the house.

Hey bro sorry to hear about your medical issues.

I am assuming it is Type 2 diabetes...if so lifestyle (mainly weight) are the factors that you can change or control.

Lots of material out there to help you deal with it...

Either way good luck bro

Believe it or not by the way the Atkins diets work are very good for blood sugar levels...your
A1C test will improve with it...the problem is that you cannot go full blown no carbs as it will put in a state called Ketosis which is dangerous and can put you in Keto-acidosis which is life threatening

Again good luck bro...reading labels as you have learned is very important

Hey guys. Thanks. I've been doing my best to keep my levels down. This week has been high 6s / low 7s. Gotta kick the other shit. Slowly but surely.

60/70's is very low in terms of finger stick blood sugar numbers (FSBS)...in fact if you did not have a meal coming within the next 30 minutes I would not have adminstered the insulin.....

While they are safe, but still on the low side of safe....keep your FSBS below 200 for the most part and the long term effects of DM2 will not affect your life
