Betonsports
A bad case of double standards?

The indictment in the case of United States District Court of Eastern District of Missouri vs. BetonSports.com and various named principals alleges that Betosnsports operated the Offshore Gaming Association and the International Sportsbook Council, which purported to be independent watchdog groups protecting players interests, but were in fact being used as marketing vechiles to drive players towards betonsports and its related websites, whilst at the same time ensuring that the company was able to resolve bettor disputes in its favour. The indictment does not charge the company in relation to this allegation.

The International Sports Book Council (ISBC) website appears to have recently been taken down. However, an examination of Google's cache reveals that the company, which called itself "The First LEGITIMATE regulator" was more than pleased to broadcast its objective status;

" We are a professional non-biased third party (notice there are NO ads or banners) organization that gives objective opinions, based on your feedback, independent research, phone calls, tips and inside news. We at the ISBC have decided that the online gaming customer needs a reliable watchdog. We are determined to provide the gaming client with 100% conficence that the gaming company he or she chooses is of the highest standards. The climate of the offshore gaming industry has made people need to have additional information on sportsbooks and casinos from an outside source. An educated gambler needs to know where to get this information. Browse our site to choose a safe and reliable company with which to wager.

To somebody with an insiders knowledge of the industry, there was one thing that always caught the eye about this website, and that was the fact that all of the websites promoted on its front page, were owned by one outfit - Betonsports. Below we list some of the the comments that were attributed to each of the sportsbooks;

BETonSPORTS.com; "The largest operation out there. Incredible stability and service"; Jaguar Sportsbook (jagbet.com) "Big bonuses. Huge company. Highest parlay payoffs at 14/5"; BettorsTrust.com; "Great for the shrewd better. Insurance plans are available" RockIsland Sports Gentleman's book; "Great photos of women and high bonuses"; MVPbets.com; "Super teasers. 14 point football teasers. Top service"; Gibraltar Sports "One of the next leaders. Good new parlay odds. Worth a look. " Infinity Sports; "Strong management and bonuses. Old fashioned virtue." BetonFantasy.com "Specializes in Prop bets very similar to Fantasy Sports. Stable." Millenium Sports; "Top Teaser odds. Baseball total teasers offered." WagerMall.com; "12 sportsbooks' lines are available. Good for shopping lines." IbetBig.com; "Our newest addition. Financially solid and top bonuses."

"The Off Shore Gaming Association (OSGA) also proclaims itself to be an independent "watchdog" agency that monitors the Off Shore Sports Gaming Industry in an effort to provide the public an avenue to find reputable companies to wager with;

" We are a professional non-biased third party organization that gives objective opinions, based on your feedback, independent research, phone calls, tips and inside news. We at the Off Shore Gaming Association started this business with the customer in mind. We are resolved to keeping the philosophy that there are safe places for sports gambling. Because of the climate in the industry today people need to have additional information on offshore sportsbooks and online casinos from an outside source. An educated gambler needs to know where to get information for online gambling. The following pages include valuable news and advice."

Intriguingly perhaps, the website's review of the main Betonsports website has now been taken down. However, utilising the magic that is the Google cache service, we can see the ebullient praise that was lavished upon Betonsport's core sportsbook.

If the allegations contained in the indictement are correct, and in that no charges are being brought in relation to them, we shall perhaps never know, then we have a situation where a company that was calling for regulation was at the same time allegedly abusing the independent watch dog system, so as to be able to to recruit new customers to its sportsbooks, whilst at the same time, ensuring that disputes involving those bettors were resolved in its favour. Shameful indeed.
