Lightbulb Digital Cable or Direct TV

Which one is better and why?

Can both be used with HDTV?

I am just an old fashioned cable guy. lol - I used to have a hot card for Direct TV but once I lost that option - I never did look in to legitimate Direct TV. So if I was going to purchase one - which is better and why?

Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?

Besides Sunday ticket - any other major advantages? Our local cable "digital" version seems to have 8000 channels so I was wondering.

I had Direct TV in college. Now I have Digital Cable. I have to agree with Keeth, Direct TV was better. Digital cable is so slow some time. If you scan the channels too quick it will lock up at moments. Direct TV was very user friendly. The only thing that cable has going for it, you can sometime make out a nipple on the blocked out Spice Channel. lol

I've had both, currently have digital cable mainly for the bundling of tv and high speed internet.

I think satellite provides a better value and more reliable picture quality most of the time, but when severe weather hits (bad rainstorms, heavy snow, etc.) you will often lose your satellite signal for short periods of time. They have gotten a lot better with it, but cable is much more reliable in that aspect.

There's very little out there that beats the always-on reliability and speed of cable modems for internet. That's far and away the biggest reason why I stick with cable right now (even though I know I am paying more than I should have to). Until DSL can consistently catch up or the satellite companies come up with another option (DirectTV and DISH are working together on a new high speed network), they will fall short to cable.

Sunday ticket and DirecTV's upcoming march madness coverage really are nice perks for sports fans though!

pretty sure I get all 8000 of them as well. Between 7 different HBO channels, and similar amounts of Showtime, Starz and Cinemax channels, there is ALOT of chit to choose from. Of course, I end watching only the same 5 or 6 sports channel each night (lol).

Digital Cable exclusively has ON-DEMAND Programming (Time Warner anyway), HBO on Demand a library of most of their popular shows, example pull up Sopranos episode 3 from season 4 WHENEVER you want. Both have advantages and disadvantages, but id say the only clear one for Direct TV is NFL as far as programming goes. For convience, Cable is better

I like Digital Cable myself
