Not sure if "disease" is the right word, but maybe "dis-ease" is more proper if on a losing skid.

Gambling is one of about a dozen hobbies I have. Luckily, it doesn't get all I have to spare after paying the basic monthly bills. I don't spend that much on it compared to most, if not all in here. I keep a check on it and got it under control for the most part.

More of a personality disorder like someone who is obsessive-compulsive.

They say it is.[GA]
I say it can't hurt your body.
It can hurt your wallet, if you don't know what yer doing.
It is a game of percentages the sooner you see that the better off you will be.

Not a disease. Neither is alcoholism, drug addiction, or scratching your ass in public.

Sure it is. People get a high when they win, and become manics when they lose. Just like any other thing in life. It is an obsession for some people. It becomes a habit, like a drug. The results are normally the same. Though no one who posts in here will admit it, 85% of gamblers are losers. How many people in here can not watch a game without having something on it?

It is if you let it be. There is a problem if your sitting on your ass checking scores all day when you would be out doing something if you weren't gambling. For example today I'll probably sit down and watch the Georgia game tonight and thats it. If gambling completely alters your way of life then its a disease.

I guess anything you do is a disease now.

I can't stop shaving, it is a disease - it is consuming my life!! - Every day I've got that damn razor in my hand and I just can't help myself, I just have to shave. I can't even put shaving cream on without shaving; I'm totally addicted and have been for quite a while.

I tried to quit once, but my face got all hairy and itchy and stuff, I thought I was gonna die!! I couldn't stand it - I just couldn't hang on, I gave in to the almighty razor once again. I'm weak, but it is a disease so it is beyond my control.

See? That's the point. If you call it a disease, somehow that takes ownership of your problem away from you. Oh it's a disease, he can't help himself.

BULLSHIT!! Man up and take control of your problems. Don't give in by calling it a disease. Look at Randy Marsh for Christ's sake.
