do you try & get better in sports betting?

Serious question

can you get better as a sports bettor? Do you learn from mistakes? Do you try & learn from others style of betting even if it's not your style?

Or do you just do your thing, same style, your methods & no one going to change your mind?

Do you change your betting style from year to year, sport to sport?

Do you have goals?

Serious question - let's avoid throwing punches & have good discussion on this. After all this is why most of us come to sites like this in first place.

Thoughts?

Damn Jack, you know this thread could have taken a life of its own, lol.

But to me, Ive never really changed. Ive always done OK with how I wager. I will change minor things, but I do it more for fun, so I enjoy betting my own way....

yes

I do alot more reading now. The technicapping section has helped alot. I try to come up with 5 plays I like a day, and compare them to other people who are better than me in baseball and see if we match up.

I have been working on creating my own line for sports to some success not much, but it's getting better.

Basically I am just trying to be more informed and factor in more methods than just fading the public.

That's a good point too. Fading the public can be a great tool but not the only tool & maybe sometimes people read it wrong

Every season I try to be a better sports better.

Always learn from my mistakes.

I`ve had the same style of betting for years. I`ve changed my mind on games occasionally after reading write ups from solid posters.

I`m old school and set in my ways. So I don`t think I`ll ever change my betting style.

My goal every season is to be on the plus side.

My philosophy is keep it simple......

Don't play everyday just for the sake of betting and having some action.....

When you do play, level your plays down to a few plays. For example, play 2 or 3 games on a given Saturday of college football, not 20!! Books feast on the guys that fail to realize that a 6-6 day is only good for the books.......

Stay consistent with your plays........I do it from time to time and am guilty myself but I really don't like to bet 10 units on this game, and 3 units on this game, etc. Pick a couple of the 6 or 7 you like and bet the same amount on your top two or three.

I only play MLB anymore with the execption of an occasional prop bet or future bet in football or basketball and only bet something I have scouted out and feel really good about. I used to be the guy that had to bet everyday but those days are over. For the past three years I have probably made an average of 15-20 baseball plays for the entire year and I am good with that. I look for "spots" where a matchup looks very tasty and study up on how the teams involved and specifically the pitchers (bullpens included) have performed over the previous 10 days.

I used to bet too many games - still do at the beginning of a season, get all excited and need the action. But if you think about it, the less games you bet the better your odds of coming out ahead. Right? Isn't it easier to pick 2 out of 3 right than it is to pick 6 out of 10? Or maybe just 1 -- 50/50 shot here; either you win or you lose... And when you lose, you don't lose as much, assuming correct money management.

Something that helps me stick to playing less games is to remember that they play the National Anthem every day.

And, yes, MONEY MANAGEMENT is of vital importance. The old "marathon not a race" analogy helps. You never want to be in an "all-in" situation. Sure, sometimes you have no choice, but that is a good sign that you need to get better and betting if your entire bankroll is at stake on any one game.

I sometimes find it easier to pick 6 out of 10. I worry I am going to leave out the wrong one.

ooooh... and chasing your losses. Don't do it. It rarely works out in your favor. In fact, I think you end up jinxing the team you bet on when you chase (yes, superstition DOES play into my handicapping,,, thank you).

over the last few years i have really improved my capping abilities.

i have found through research a few things that have worked for me now and have abandoned some things that were very so-so for me in the past.

like service play section. a few years ago i would be in there all day trying to tally who was on what and see if there were patterns. graduated from that thank god

but when i look at my record & units won i am really happy where i am at right now and hope it continues!!

also, i like to play a lot of games....its a combo action junkie thing but like someone else says....i feel like i am leaving something out.

used to make my own picks...but then i realized i suck as do the high majority of the betting world...so now purely look for people to fade...so yeah...i guess i changed to try and get better

Now everyone quick fade this style and you'll win
