A documentary about how products are made to be defective

I came across a great documentary about how products are designed with short life spans so people will keep buying more stuff. This has driven me nuts for years so its great to see a documentary about it.

Pyramids of Waste (2010), AKA The Lightbulb Conspiracy - Planned obsolescence documentary

You can watch it here: http://dotsub.com/view/aed3b8b2-1889...3-ad85f5572f27

This is the only website which has subtitles because they interview some French and German people. It's also on Youtube (below) but I'm not sure how much the close captioning covers in regards to translations.

Going to give that a look. Always driven me nuts, too.

Cell phones last about 2-3 years, just in time to re-up a new contract to get another free one.

And how come the soles of my Nikes wear down after a couple of years, but my tires keep their tread for 50,000 miles?

there can't be competitive pressure against or for future performance, so any company that practiced this would increase volume of sales
