You are probably right about ppl in USA saying No. I think the people in the US realize what it is referring to and don't truly think of the MLB champion as World Champion.

There was a picture in the paper the other day of the last time the Chicago Blackhawks won the stanley cup.
It was their team picture, with the following saying:
World Champions and Stanley Cup Champions

does it bother you that World Champions cannot compete at the Olympics for fear of failing the drug tests?

NHL and NBA players are not AFRAID

correct me if i'm wrong but that japanese team was more of an all-star team as were the other teams. the yankees(might seem like an all-star team with their payroll) were not an all-star team. also most non-us stars do come to the us(for money and the best league), so therefore i would consider world series champs world champs.

it does bother me, because it is only usa based sports that consider the champions to be world champions...won't see, say a sport primarily based in australia like austrailan rules football to call their champion world champions...so why does use have to impose such a title to their champs? and for the record nhl doesn.t...they just say stanley cup champions...it is the other 3 "major" sports that do...and american football being the one where most people in the world don't give a shit about it and declare themselves "world champions"...a club team is never considered world champion...it is the national team...not sure why usa based club leagues are so pompous, arrogant and ignorant

why? why does mlb get to crown "the world champion"? it is a league...not part of a world championship format...even in football (soccer to usa people) the club champions of various leagues compete in a champions cup, but the winner of tht is still not considered to be "world champion"

I always thought that was funny, not bothersome. Super Bowl winners are also called world champions, even though the sport is only played in a handful of countries lol. Some comedian has a bit on this theory that the US is the only place where you call a sports winner "world champs" but don't invite any other countries. lol.

Good question. I always wondered why they were called the World Champions. It don`t bother me, but to be called a World Champion you would have to beat other countries best to be called that. The world is a big place.
