We do not have any pets, but we have two family friends, each of whom have had lost their dogs to cancer. One, a mixed breed shepherd, was on pain meds for quite away before they put him down and the other, a beautiful golden retriever, was diagnosed with it and within a couple of months was gone. Devastating to both families. Their dogs had been an integral part of their families for several years (one for about 12 years). Pretty sad.

Yeah it can be disruptive. My family would definitely take the pets over me.

2 of our cats developed tumors in their mouth, had to put them down before the tumor broke the jaw, increasingly common in cats, probably due to the crap they use to make their food.

Had a dog that had mouth cancer. She eventually had to had part of her teeth and jaw removed. Couldn't eat or drink right, was losing weight, had to put her down. Currently have a german shepherd that got the testicular cancer, had to have one removed a la Lance Armstrong.

I think I've heard that only sharks don't get cancer. Not sure if that's true.

My lab that is 11 years old has cancer. Its not fun and they are telling me she is beyond treatment. I have 3 dogs and they are like my kids. This is going to be the second dog I have lost to cancer. Best of luck to you Jack hope it all works out.
