Don't F with Cdns: Another beheading/dismemberment
Winnipeg man guilty of 2nd-degree murder for dismembering sex partner in bathtub:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 38 minutes ago By The Canadian Press WINNIPEG - A man who admitted to beheading and dismembering a fellow he picked up in a bar has been found guilty of second-degree murder. Sydney Teerhuis-Moar had argued during his trial that he was so high on booze and drugs he couldn't remember killing Robin Greene and stacking his body parts in a bathtub. But the jury decided that didn't relieve him of responsibility for his crime and rejected his bid to be found guilty of manslaughter instead. The trial had a bizarre Hollywood twist - a necklace belonging to actress Susan Sarandon was found in the hotel room where Greene was killed. It had been stolen from the set of Sarandon's movie "Shall We Dance," which was filming in Winnipeg at the time of the slaying. Teerhuis-Moar was never charged in its theft and the trial never heard any evidence explaining its presence. Teerhuis-Moar is to be sentenced Friday. In his closing arguments last week, defence lawyer Greg Brodsky asked jurors to leave emotion out of their deliberations. While admitting the crime was horrific, he told the jury: "You can't decide my client is a horrible person." He also suggested that "no sane and sober person" would stab the victim 68 times, cut off his head and penis, pluck out one eye, remove and discard all the internal organs and leave the remaining torso cut into eight pieces and stacked in the bathtub of his hotel room. Crown prosecutor Sheila Leinburd suggested that Teerhuis-Moar was simply "evil." "How drunk does a man have to be to do this to another human being?" she asked. "The killing was merciless." Crucial evidence at the trial was a series of letters Teerhuis-Moar wrote to a prospective author of a book on the case. In the letters, Teerhuis-Moar made crude jokes about the death and suggested he had committed necrophilia. The Crown argued the details in the letters proved he remembered exactly what he had done. Teerhuis-Moar argued he was a victim of his own desire for fame and made up the details to make a better story. |
