Down loading movies

i got a letter from some attorneys, saying i need to send 3000 by a certain date, because i downloaded a movie last year. they said they had my ip address. can they make me pay this or send me to court. its on the internet. i thought it was alright to do this.its not like im selling the movies or anything,have this happen to anybody else,. pleas respond

nope its not ok. its called stealing.
It doesnt matter if you dont resell it. I dont agree with their business model but I also dont condone taking for free what its not yours.

can they do it? yes. They have made examples of other people in the past. First verify it is real and not some scammer. They have to provide you with information that proves it was you. What movie, what IP, date, time, etc. If it all matches up then I would figure out a way to settle.

Or consult a lawyer.

just print screened this and obtained your IP address in NC, will send this to said attorneys as your written confession unless you send me all 42 of your reward points

I know it's Illegal to Download Stuff but i would question how this Lawyer got your IP address If you were to be contacted about Downloading Stuff you would get a infringement letter from your ISP They are the only one's that have your IP address
I don't think it's legal to give out that info to anyone

To me it sounds very fishy. I think it may be a scam. Don't pay a dime. If it is a real letter then make them prove it. I wouldn't be to worried about it though, I think they would need more than your IP address to convict you.

the movie was hellbinders, i know i didnt do this movie i dont even know what this movie is.almost a year ago to date,

Don't even respond to these idiots. They're playing a numbers game, hoping that 2% of everyone they contact is scared enough to send them money.

Let them try to take you to court. If they're legit, it'll cost them more than the $3000. Are they flying their legal team to NC, or flying you to whereever they are? No.

If you don't respond to this or their next try, they'll probably move on.

Technically speaking its illegal, but I doubt this is legit. In most cases the law firm would state they are representing a group and plan to bring suit against you. By law they can't just make you pay anything. Only a court order signed by a judge would require you to pay. I would ask for additional proof. Odds are they won't provide diddly and even if they do you still have your day in court. Under no circumstances would I pay unless they produce a court order, which you can go to the courthouse and verify the validity.
