Dr. Jack a thread I am looking for

Dr, looking for a thread you posted in here somewhere on the 2 kids that died from the extreme heat while working out. The Youth football coaches in my local area are running the kids until they puke. I would love to print this out so I can hand it to them and then walk away. Several kids now want to quite and that is not what our proogram used to be about. They have new coaches and sometimes they just don't get it. Its 107 today and was 109 yesterday. I have been looking for the thread but can not find it, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Steel - You guys are going at it over this cake. We can only hope that someone else does not enter the race. lol

On a serious note - down here this happens way more than it should

TAMPA · A youth football league is rethinking safety requirements after two boys collapsed and died during separate summer practices this month.

Jamell Johnson, 11, and Bobby Stephens, 12, collapsed days apart after running laps at their first Tampa Bay Youth Football League practices.

Jamell died Friday, nine days after his collapse in Tampa. Bobby died July 17 in an ambulance that was taking him from a practice field in the Tampa suburbs to a nearby hospital.

The medical examiner has not released the cause of the deaths, but coaches and relatives reported both boys showed signs of heat exhaustion.

"It's just so unbelievable," said Scott Levinson, head of the football league. "We've had well over half-a-million kids go through this program and nothing like this has ever happened."

"We're looking for answers," he said. "It's an emotional time for the league."

Levinson said he will require physical exams for the league's 2,500 players next year. League rules require a team staff member to be certified in first aid and CPR.

"Maybe the coaches need additional training on looking for signs something is wrong," said Ray Yeakley, spokesman for Hillsborough County Fire-Rescue.

bgjoey, thanks so much. Taking it out to the field right now. Just had 4 parents call me very upset. I have been a part of the organization for a few years now. Now that I am with the High School I feel the need to let them know that what they are doing can hurt the kids. This is what happens when you bring fathers into a program to coach. Thanks again ....
