Everthing Ok over there DaveNZ?
A strong earthquake rattled New Zealand at 4:35 a.m. local time Saturday morning. The USGS posted a magnitude of 7.2.

The quake epicenter was four miles south-southeast from Christchurch, New Zealand, on the nation's south island. Local media reports there have been strong aftershocks and power outages throughout the city.

Christchurch is New Zealand's second largest city with a population of approximately 372,000.

Wouldn't say everything is ok.....mayhem in Christchurch. I have family there have just heard damage to their properties no power or water but they are uninjured which is the main thing.

Its sickening watching it on TV, when its this local it hits home! but even though there is quite abit of damage, looks like the fatalities are low.

Living in New Orleans my entire life, I know a thing or two about coping and dealing with a unpredictable train wreck that causes a serious amount of damage. Hope it is not as bad as it looks. Best wishes.

We got lucky it hit at 4am most people at home asleep, had it been at a peak hour time there may have been alot of deaths.
