Lightbulb The Evolution of the Internet - Multiple Sportsbooks a Must

The Evolution of the Internet - Multiple Sportsbooks a Must

CappersMall.com

In the old days, successful sports bettors would travel from sportsbook to sportsbook looking for the best lines. Many would get connected so they could find out lines by calling someone that checked the lines. When lines were released, there would be a rush to the pay phones. Money would be hurried into the slot as people would frantically call bookie operations to give the lines.

Eventually, the sports betting world started to evolve some and lines and information were available via fax machine. Subscribers would receive faxes with the latest line moves and event data. For the less sophisticated sports bettor the newspaper was the main source of information. However, any newspaper that displayed lines was simply reporting them from one source. Research still had to be performed. The lazy sports bettors were stuck with what line was literally within a few minutes driving distance or a phone call.

Another way sports bettors of yesteryear got their information was from beepers. Many sports information services offered special beepers that carried sports information, such as sports lines, sports picks and injury reports. These services were a little bit pricey for those days. They eventually came down, but they were still too much for the small bettor to justify the cost. Just as they were becoming "cheap," the Internet popped up. Sure, the Internet was developed in the 1960s, but it wasn't until the 1990s when it caught on.

In the 1990s, the Internet really started to roar. In the middle of the decade, sports information really came into its own. More and more information started to appear online. At first, you had to pay for the really good "live" information. However, with each passing year, this became less of a problem. Free information began springing up all over. Today, sports bettors can check hundreds of online sportsbooks by just clicking around.

I don't think sports bettors today realize just how good they have it. The sad thing is that many sports bettors don't take advantage of everything that's out there. How many times have you lost a game by a point? How about a half of a point? If you bet on sports often, it's happened more times than you care to think about. I've had it happen multiple times in the same day. Sometimes that's just the breaks in sports betting. However, many times it could have been avoided.

There's a common misconception out there that the line is the line. What I mean by that is that many sports bettors just assume that the line they are looking at is as good as it gets. It seems that when they find a different line, it doesn't register. The Internet has presented sports bettors with such a golden opportunity it's mind blowing. Never before in the history of sports betting has it been so easy to find better lines and to really take advantage of moves that were previously reserved for the larger players.

If you are a $10 per game player, $100 per game player, $1000 per game player or whatever, take a few minutes of your time, locate the best line for you and nail it.

If you are planning on being a regular sports bettor, you must use multiple sportsbooks. I recommend getting access to no less than three you really trust. I have placed thousands of wagers in my time, and I have never found one sportsbook that was the end all solution. I have found plenty that I really like, some more than others but I'll give you an example. One day I decided to play 4 NFL games. How many sportsbooks do you think I needed to make those wagers?

The answer is 3. The first sportsbook had the best lines on the first two games, but not so good on the other two. The second sportsbook had a dynamite line on game number three, but not the rest. Finally, the last sportsbook had a solid line on game number 4. They also had a good line on game number one. As you can see, if I had bet at just one sportsbook, I would have received at least two lines that weren't the best value. Instead, I went to three sportsbooks and got the most value for my money. They are all solid books but to win at this game you want to have the best line always.

It's really about value. Sure, sometimes getting an extra half point in football won't matter, but if it does, you'll be glad you went the extra mile. What about baseball? The entire sport—gambling wise—is based around the money line. Would you rather bet the favorite at -$1.65 or -$1.57? If you think that 8 cents doesn't matter, I have a bridge in Vegas to sell you. Any successful sports bettor will tell you the line between consistently profiting, and coming up short is razor thin.

Let’s look at three books that are well respected sportsbooks with plenty of positives on each book. For baseball games on Friday, 8/11 let’s look at the Ny Mets and Tom Glavine. If you were a favorite bettor and you liked the Mets – you can find Glavine and the Mets at -144 at BetJamaica, -146 at Pinnacle and -150 at betWWTS. Now all 3 books are reputable but why would you play this game anywhere else but at -144 at Bet Jamaica. Now look at the Toronto/Minnesota game. You can get Toronto -113 at Pinnacle and BetJamaica but at betWWTS, Toronto is available at -110. Sure we are talking about pennies but add those pennies up over the course of a month and you now have dollars. If you add the dollars up over the course of a year – you have now saved hundreds of dollars. I am not sure about how you feel but if we won every game this would not matter. However the reality is we don’t win every game so why not try and save every few dollars you can. In the end it could be the difference between a winning and losing season.

If you take nothing else away from this article, remember one thing. A winning sports bettor will always have at least three sportsbooks that he or she can easily get the latest lines and wager at. I recommend you take advantage of it.

couldn't agree more. I was mapping out a battle plan last night for the upcoming football/basketball seasons. This year I'm going to keep better records and try to be a little less recreational and a little more disciplined.

My thoughts were to fund 5 books. Obviously, I want to support those who support the mall. The three I'm sure about is Pinnacle, betjm, wwts. I'm leaning heavy towards bodog as a 4th(because of their occasional over adjustments).

Do we have more sponsors coming on board soon? If so I'll wait to finalize my list, if not I'll probably put 1k in heritage, just because of that 500 hedge/double up halftime coupon they sent me.

Yes we do (a few more). One of them is finalized but will not go live for a week or so. They are a must have if you play underdogs (hint/hint)
