Natalie Portman leads Best Actress betting

COLIN FIRTH looks a cert to win the Best Actor in a Drama award at this year’s Golden Globes, according to the betting on Betfair. The King’s Speech star, 50, is the big odds-on favourite at 2-13 to walk away with the prestigious gong.

Punters are tipping British actor Firth ahead of James Franco, 8-1 for real-life drama 127 Hours, and The Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg at 11-1. Mark Whalberg is a 37-1 chance to win a globe for The Fighter, with Blue Valentine star Ryan Gosling the least fancied at 49-1.

Natalie Portman leads the betting in the Best Actress in a Drama category. Nominated for her role in Black Swan, the 29-year-old is another odds-on favourite at 1-5 to land the award.

Portman is favoured to win ahead of Winters Bone actress Jennifer Lawrence, a 6-1 shot, and Nicole Kidman for Rabbit Hole, at 9-1. Michelle Williams can be backed at 69-1 for her role in Blue Valentine, while Halle Berry has it all do at 79-1 for Frankie and Alice.

Betfair’s Richard Bloch said: “Critics and cinema-goers alike have heaped praise on Colin Firth’s portrayal of King George VI in The King’s Speech. The movie has had a strong showing at the box office on both sides of the Atlantic and our punters expect Firth to enjoy a decent awards season starting with a win at the Golden Globes on Sunday.”
