fish tank?

Any of you guys have fish?
We need something to fill a corner spot on our living room and somehow decided on an aquarium.

So what's the deal? is tropical the way to go or too much of a pain in the ass?
How's the up keep? Am I going to be killing off expensive ass fish left and right?

Thanks

Saltwater is a pain in the ass to maintain. I'd go with freshwater. Start with cheap fish to get the tank started

Ha.. thats funny, I just changed the water on mine tonight.

Agree with Dhunter. Get a medium sized tank (10-20 gallon). Freshwater. Few easy to handle fish to get the tank cycled, and see how it goes.

I like 'em, and its easy to maintain. Just a quick cleaning and water change every couple weeks to every month.

10-20 is still on the small side. just remember that small tanks (less volume) are less forgiving and you have to change the water/clean them more often. i'd go 30-40 if you have the room to do it.

I have a 72 gallon bow front tank thats freshwater...

Check out getting fish called cichlids....They are very colorfull and rather easy to take care of...

They make some nice corner bow front tanks also that make work perfect for you.

Your main concern is to test your water....I just lost my whole tank recently cause the county must have just added chemicals into the system and I didnt check it when i did my water change....chlorine wiped all my fish out...

Actually getting a couple new ones today to start over....

there's this chemical you can get that prevents your water from turnin green that works a lot better than the regular ones, once you find it, it makes everything easier...

had a helluvalotta fun when i was a kid with raising guppies... them things multiply like crazy and you get to see allotta action lol... get to see the mothers real huge n pregnant and givin birth and see these tiny little babies that pop out that are almost transparent except fer the big black eye... then the fathers and sometimes mothers come around and eat em up in one gulp ... so then we got a birthing cage that hangs in the tank and keeps the babies safe in till they get bigger...

I had a lot of guppies as well. They became snacks for my cat though.

Had 3 Oscars Moe, Larry, and Curly they get huge so don't get Oscars and put them in a small tank or you will be upgrading your tank real fast

They used to eat right out of my hand and are very aggressive fish
