Found a small gem...

Most of the books I buy are new but sometimes I go to a used store and yard sales.

The latest book I bought was a 2005 Trade Paperback earlier this week for $2

Sting: Broken Music--A Memoir (list price: US $13 / CAN $18.00)

When I got home to enter the Title, Author etc. in a file folder in my pc I noticed it was autographed on the first title page by Sting himself.

In it was a ticket stub (which at first flip at the bookstore thought was just a bookmark but...) of The Police concert in my city dated May 1, 2008. This ticket was for a VIP (Section 119D Row 1 Seat 1 Price $0.00).

How would you price/value these 2 items?

I have a 6-shelf bookcase full of musicbooks so I'll keep it.

I'm not a fan of Sting but read a little off to expand my horizons. Loved The Police back then though.

Ok, thanx. Was just curious...well, more like excited cuz I play guitar and been into this for years.

Also bought 2 oversized hardcover French books during the Summer for 50 cents each--dated 1897 & 1903. I did make a quick online search and they were priced $100 and $100-$250 respectively.

One online company wanted to charge me $100 to search and price them for me--lol.

I bought these two books to resell for a profit. At first I thought of $25 each but would take $50 each...or maybe more I'll work on selling them next year.

Cool thread here Boris, nice find. I find shit like this myself. This summer I was at the Offtrack outlet and decided to walk home and stopped in a Value Village on the Danforth. Had a look inside and found a signed book by famous WWII general LM Montgomery. Bought it for $1.99. Later in the summer I had a better find. A signed book by Gene Tunney former world heavyweight champ who defeated Jack Dempsey.

LM Montgomery is a Canadian author, better known as "Maud" wrote Anne of Green Gables; BL Montgomery, better known as "Monty" was the British Field Marshall/Commander of Alamein in WWII.

Which one? Either way I think the former would fetch more coins.

Yeah, I heard of Value Village...I give unwanted stuff to The Canadian Diabetes Association which in turn sells it to them or something like that. Sometimes I go to St. Vincent de Paul to get some military books. Now is a good time as ever to go to these thrift shops because we live in an affluent society and when parents/grandparents die most of their belongings is given to those charities...all the surviving kins want is the insurance papers = $$$.

I was thinking faster than I was typing. A dangerous combination LOL. It is BL Montgomery, better known as "Monty" not the Canadian author who wrote Anne of Green Gables whose signature would be worth much much more. Value Village I have been in a numerous times but I dont come across much decent stuff there. Have much better luck hitting the yards sales in the spring and summer in the Cabbagetown area of TO.

I grew up in Arlington Heights Illinios, Before the Walmarts took over they used to have a little camera shop downtown.. My brother cleaned it out back in 79? maybe,,Behind something that was bolted to the wall, like cabinet he found about 15 pictures with negatives. It was of the Beatles back stage at the Chicago stadium..They were black n white, and were very good pictures..it looked like whoever took them was almost alone with then in a small room..They had those dumb outfits on and everything and a few looked posed. My brother put them under the glass top of his dresser and nobody thought much of it..Then..I just heard a never before Beatle picture sold for 100k or something at auction recently..I've been meaning to call my brother about this- Since he's been divorced twice I think the likelyhood of him still having them, or knowing where they are are slim, but I should call him about it soon..Maybe Thanksgiving day..

I've found close to a dozen used books authographed by its author. The two Cdn authors I value most are by David Suzuki & Pierre Berton. Yeah, I even have a signed book of Michael Moore and in it was also a photograph of both him signing it to the guy beside him. All these books I found there, within one year, and didn't know they were signed until I got home and listed them in my pc file.
