Police arrest suspect in test-drive bank robbery

EDMONTON - Police have arrested a man suspected of robbing a bank while test-driving a truck earlier this week.

The man was spotted walking down Whyte Avenue on Thursday morning by a citizen who recognized him from media coverage of the robbery.

The citizen called police, who arrested the man without incident at the corner of 102nd Street and Whyte Avenue at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Robbery police are interviewing the man, and charges are pending.

The man is suspected of robbing the TD Bank at Westmount Mall on Tuesday. He was test driving a Dodge Ram truck, with a car salesman riding in the passenger seat.

The man pulled over and said he was going to take out cash to buy the truck. The salesman suspected he instead robbed the bank.

The salesman later managed to take the truck's keys and lock the truck while the man was in a convenience store at a gas station on Highway 16.

The man ran away and the salesman called 911 to report the robbery.
