Exclamation Free TV through cable internet

In 2009 I was fixing a house I just bought so I ordered cable internet for $19.95/mo come-on price from Comcast. I had a 30" TV. When I tried a second cable from the router into the TV, I performed an autotune and it found about 60 TV channels to watch including ESPN. You can only watch these in real time. No pausing or staying behind real time and forwarding through commercials.

I did this again in 2013 with my Charter cable. Same result. Later a Charter cable man said that shouldn't happen and tried for hours to filter it out with no luck.

My cable is now Spectrum and buried in the wall so it is kinda hard to get to.

Could someone who is tired of $2,000/year cable bills please try this to their newer than 2006 TV:
1. Remove by unscrewing the cable from the set-top box.
2. Screw the cable into the TV onto the male threaded stud marked "TV Input" or similar.

I used to like my DVR because I can watch any of the 50 or more shows like "Chicago, Law Abiding Citizen, Book of Eli," etc that I like. These are pretty much now on Netflix which is worth paying for.

Those $90+ monthly DISH bills hurt. When current 2-year ends, looking hard @ YouTubeTV. ESPN & roughly 60 channels.
"Cloud DVR" is the new thing & locals (here at least).

$40 a month w/out all the "boxes".

My cable/internet bill is $215 a month. It pisses me off to be honest but none of these other things give me everything i have. I want DVR, local channels and all the sports channels that i have. It sucks and i hate paying it every month. I can call now and cancel redzone but that will only knock off $10.99 a month

Have you tried Fubotv? They have a record and live pause function.

Roku tv’s (which are great and cheap) have a usb option you stick in there that uses the usb for live tv pausing.

If I get some time In the next month I will try to hook a cable to my roku tv. Been moving recently so it’s all a mess right now.

My wife has informed me that if I stop DVR service, she will buy it back. Maybe I will drop redzone.

You can add kodi to firestick. Movies, tv, sports channels can be added to the kodi program that is basically a collection of streams scraped off reddit.

Has YouTubeTV been good?

I looked at my cable bill:
Amount Due:$216.65

When football season is over, it is the time in Alabama to enjoy the great outdoors and go out into the woods and call it turkey hunting. Then it warms up so is fishing time. Then repeat until you are called...

My bill is $90/month for internet only. Also pay for a streaming option $20/month. It includes all sports packages. It does freeze periodically but I just have to go back to guide then back to channel. Literally takes 5 sec to reset. As far as locals, I mounted an outdoor antenna that I wired to my old cable box to send locals to each TV. I have firesticks in each bedroom with the streaming option in our bedroom also but not kids.

Fire sticks are the Amazon fire stick. Some of those can be modified and a program called Kodi added. Through that program you can Watch TV movie and sports for free

It isn’t too difficult to do it yourself. There are plenty of tutorials online. You just need to be semi-computer savvy.

About 6 years ago I bought a 65" 1080p TV. TVs got moved around the house with one extra. My wife put one in her sitting room that had no cable outlet. She bought a firestick which allowed it to pick up wi-fi and she had a working tv.

Last week I called theBlaze because I could not make my firestick work. Turns out it was just too old. The tech guy had said "just buy the $40 unit," thinking I felt screwed. Instead, I paid $49.99 for the newest model, the 4K unit. I have only had it a few days now.

The Netflix app is superb; better than my 8-month-old Bravia 4K TV's internal app which was good. I am still setting it mostly.

With the 4K firestick, Fox News is far more clear. It appears that the show may be ~20 minutes behind real time; not sure yet.

The 4K device is far better resolution.

I give 5 stars to the $49.99 4K firestick. Everything is clearer. The black is so stark on a stark white background that I can read the text without my eyeglasses. I bought Fox Nation and CRTV merged with the Blaze but there is no Blaze app yet. Plenty of Fox type news for anyone.

So far, we are not giving up our $40/ mo DVR payments. It's just too nice. We are dropping from the Spectrum Gold to Spectrum Select for a $40/mo savings.

More as I figure it out.

good luck

Update 1

With a 4K stick, on 1 year old TV old shows like deep space 9 will pop-up a "skip intro". Clicking OK then save a boring 40 sec of same old, same old.
