TAMPA - New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner has died in Tampa after suffering a heart attack, three sources tell ABC Action News.

Steinbrenner was hospitalized in Tampa late Monday night after suffering a heart attack.

Emergency crews responded to his home around 11 p.m. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was reported in serious condition.

Steinbrenner, who turned 80 on July 4, owned the Yankees since 1973. He was well known for his philanthropy in the Tampa Bay area.

abcactionnews.com will have more information as it becomes available.

RIP Steinbrenner. Very solid owner. Nice to see an owner willing to spend money to put best product on the field.

Flags were immediately lowered to half-staff at Steinbrenner Field, the Yankees' spring training complex.

He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports. He took a great but struggling franchise and turned it into a champion again.

Looks like the NY Daily News already had a five page article in the can waiting for The Boss' death.

George Steinbrenner, owner of New York Yankees, has died in Tampa at age of 80: source

this thread might have a little bit more to do with the death of an icon in the baseball world than your dumb little attempt to get attention based on something that happened in another thread

RIP

I couldn't stand the Yankees, but this is a great loss for baseball and all of sports. Rest in Peace George.

"Winning is the most important thing in my life, after breathing," Steinbrenner was fond of saying. "Breathing first, winning next."

Evan: What? One name? ONE NAME!?!? Who are you? Seal?
Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?
