Going to New Orleans next week.

My buddies and I are going to the LSU Florida game (hoping Tebow plays), but staying in New Orleans. We are staying near Bourbon Street and I was wondering where is the best places to eat some southern local cooking? What are the best bars? What must you do in New Orleans?

Any suggestions for tailgating at the LSU game?

Thanks!!

Do go out by urself at night. I was there 3 years ago went to LSU/FLA Then Iggles Saints sun and we had a couple guys in our hotel get robbed. They even told us at the front desk about the area. There are so many restaurants down there u will have no problem. No doghouses though. We had a great time

Everyone keeps telling me about being robbed lol. It's kinda making me nervous about walking anywhere. Is it worse than Philly?

alot worse.New Orleans isnt that big. If u r walkking around Kensington or West Philly at night u may get more than robbed. Old city and Rittenhouse nothing happens to u. New Orleans is bad off Bourbon St. If u have any street smarts at all u will be ok.

Make sure you go to Acme Oyster House in the Quarter. Down about a block from Canal Place Cinema and no far from Canal Street. Gumbo, oysters, all that stuff. Look up the address or ask someone. Definitely worth it! Order Abita beer there, too. I like the Amber. There is a rope outside and a bouncer that looks like Michael Clark Duncan. You have to wait a few minutes usually, but not long.

To get to the quarter and all the fun stuff: when you're getting off the interstate you take Canal St (the main strip) toward the Riverwalk Mall, on the river, of course. As you pass Harrah's Casino on your right, be in the left lane and take a U-turn over the trolley tracks. (You'll see where it is, and most people U-turn there.) Take a right turn pretty quickly after you straighten back on on Canal. As you head towards Jax Brewery, Jackson Square, etc. you'll pass tons of parking on the right. There are three huge pay parking lots along there. Park in the 1st one you come to if you want to hit the Oyster House or Harrah's mostly, but maybe park in the middle one if you want to be more central to Jax Brewery, Bourbon Street, etc. Turn after you pass the Hard Rock Cafe and go in there. Your car will be pretty safe, especially if you park near the street side. There are always people around. You should see Hooter's and Coyote Ugly across the street. Cross and walk a few blocks in to get to Bourbon Street. Get a daquiri from Mango Mango, get a large Hand Grenade from Tropical Isle, check out Cat's Meow and their 3-for-1 happy hour, Razzoo, and ask someone how to find the Gold Mine later at night. It's a couple blocks away. Go to the back bar in Cat's Meow and get a Hurricane. It'll knock you on the floor if the Hand Grenade hasn't already.

If you go down toward Jax Brewery and the Farmer's Market, you'll pass a viewing area for the Mississippi River. At night, the punk kids who hang there will hassle you. They're mostly homeless, meth/heroin using troublemakers. Don't linger there at night.

If you're walking on Bourbon St or around Jackson Square, you'll get approached by panhandlers. They can spot a tourist a mile away, no matter how much you think you don't look like a tourist. They always know. They're not typical panhandlers, though. They'll bet you a dollar that they "can tell you where you got them shoes." Answer: on your feet, in New Orleans. Or they'll bet you they "can tell you how many letters in your last name." Answer: 12, y-o-u-r-l-a-s-t-n-a-m-e. There are a bunch of these scams. Just laugh and act like you've heard them all before.

You can buy a drink at any bar and walk out with it, and go up and down the streets, but no other bar will let you take it in. Check out Pat O's if you want, main entrance on the side street. Kinda touristy. Go there late or if you're about to go back to your hotel. You get to keep the glass your Hurricane come in, and you don't want to have to keep up with it all night at other places.

There's a ton of info for you.
