Going To Vegas To Meet My Brothers

I am heading to vegas on may 10th, and gonna meet up w/ a couple of brothers that I havent seen since 1989. We gonna meet there to honor another brother who had passed on bout 10 days ago. It shames me to say that because we lost contact of each other for the last 7 yrs or so that I only found out about this a day before his funeral. Boone was a great guy had alot of heart and the biggest crank i ever seen on a man lol. He was a good family man, and raised 5 children. He also saved my life once and was the best grunt i ever known. To be honest, it was because of him that I signed up for a 2nd tour. At the time everybody said I was nuts (my family, friends), but I couldnt come home knowing that my buddies were gonna have to stay back in the bush. Looking back on it I guess at that time I was kinda phycho. During my 1st tour I counted the days to come home and when I did I felt like a friggin stranger ya know friggin scared and didnt say much. I returned in pleiku the rejoined my recon unit in khesanh a day later, and found Boone burnin shit lol. He got in trouble stealing beer and setting fire to a hooch. Boone just had a knack for gettin into trouble. When I found him I was expectin a welcome back but got knocked on my ass from a straght right. He was pissed off w/ me for bout 2 days for coming back sayin i was section 8 for sure lol. I knew he was happy to see me but he just need some time to think on it. A few wks later we went on a long range patrol and wound up get into some serious action, we were being attacked by an nva regiment man they were so many of them all over the place ( you could see em in the light of the flares ya know. jonesy was yelling to get out cuz a sandy was comin to clear the friggin area. we had to move quick cuz a huey was bout a half click away to pick us up. i got hit in the leg and went down, boone dropped the m-60 and carried me out the rest of the way. jonesy never made it out. I got a medal for getting wounded and sent it to jonesys mother in cleveland, he deserved it more. Boone returned to the states after his tour was over and moved to nevada in the 80's.
I know this kinda got a lil long but if you dont mind raising your glass with me and have one for Boone. He was a nobody from nowhere special but he was my brother and i will never forget him.

Brother,

Very, very sorry to hear of your loss. My best wishes to you and your family. He is a hero and saved your life and for that you owe him a lot of gratitude. He was the true essence of a brother -- not always seeing eye to eye or the same as his other brothers, but the guy who knows what matters when everything is on the line.

I just came back from beautiful Hawaii and cannot say enough good things about it. I honestly was changed by the experience and feel the need to live there later on in my life. Hawaii is a very remote place and is cutoff from the rest of the world for the most part. Many people I met there talk of their occasional trips to the mainland and often it seems them meet family in Vegas for many reasons.

Count your blessings and raise a toast to your honorable brother for me. Good luck to you and remember when you return to the islands that there is a reason you are there, and still alive today.

Best wishes,
GFX
