Going to Vegas...Need Advice

Hey guys,

I realize this thread gets started a couple times a year, but I'm going out to Vegas for the first time in my life in 18 days, right in time for the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament.

I get in Wednesday night, which is the best sportsbook to enjoy the tournament at? How early should I get to the cage to place my bets? I would imagine there will be lots of people in line that morning so I'm planning on being there EARLY.

Any other advice for a Vegas first-timer would be appreciated...I'm staying at the Tropicana...I know I know....but we don't plan on being in the hotel room much, if at all anyway, so I couldn't justify spending a lot of money on that.

Mirage was my favourite book, I stayed at the Flamingo and that book was crap. Have a good time and don't forget your sunscreen for those beaches

Agreed, when we stayed at Treasure Island, the Mirage was a favorite book and we had the California Pizza Kitchen right next to it. The Santa fe was my favorite.

I will be there the same time, my favorite sports book was Ceasars. I plan on getting to the sports book around 7 in the morning local time, which is around 2 hours before tip off. Just a word of advice, slow down when you get there, there is plenty of time to gamble. Vegas will eat you alive if you are there for too long. I am going to hit up dirty O'Shea's for some beer pong and strip poker to break up the gambling time. Hope you have a good time.

Also if you have the cash, you can go on creigslist and pay a UNLV student to save your seat. They will sit there all night for you. I think the going rate is about 100.00 if you want to sleep in a little

Appreciate all the recommendations so far...

My hotel is right next to the MGM Grand so I may be betting there simply because it's so close....

As for the gambling, I am strictly going to be betting on the tournament and watching the games at a sportsbook....that's it. I may play poker one night, other than that I plan on enjoying some good food and some good times...

Beer pong? Where is this exactly because it sounds right up our alley...and my friends and I are almost 30 so I guess that's sad in a way...

I would make your bets when you get in that night so you don't have to fight the crowds in the morning. You are going to have fun.

THE ART AND SCIENCE OF PICKING GOLF WINNERS
1. CLOSER with CHARACTER. Certain guys see the finish line and cross it and others are destined for second place.
2. RELAXED CONFIDENCE, FOCUS and a HUNGER to win. It's a mental game and their mind has to be in the right frame with a determination and focus. As Harry Vardon said: "To play well you must feel tranquil and at peace. I have never been troubled by nerves in golf because I felt I had nothing to lose and everything to gain."
3. COURSE. Does the course layout favor the strengths of the golfer and does it expose their weaknesses. Previous form can change immediately for those who feel comfortable on a course and its greens.

This is the first year in about 8 years I will not be out there for either the tourney or the conference tourneys

Best sports bar to watch the games for me are

The Mirage
Wynn
Caesar's
Bellagio
Mandalay Bay

If you don't mind the possible line changes, best advice is to make your bets the night before. Almost impossible to find a seat unless you camp out the night before

What we did last year was get a case of beer and brought it up to our suite and watched there and took turns having guys make runs to place bets for the games during the time they were going on or made them online

It's a great atmosphere though being in the books while the games are going on

There is the website for this. Dirty O'Shea's is on the strip, I think it is by Paris if I am not mistaken. Here is their website http://www.osheaslasvegas.com/entertainment.php MODS, if I can't post this please take it down. Sorry. And me and all my friends are around 30 to and we still enjoy the game.

And I have stayed at the MGM, I really liked their sports book personally. I was there during baseball season and NBA playoffs, so it really wasn't that hard to find a seat there. But I think going during march madness is going to be a much different story. Also you can always buy the monorail all day pass for like 10.00 and you can go up and down the strip as many times at you like with out paying for cabs. I think it is worth it when you are down in the southern part of the strip.

Best sportsbooks are:
Caesars
Wynn
Bellagio

I suggest getting down there as early as possible cuz its not really an issue with getting to the window to place your bets, but getting a seat or table for your party will be...if you dont get there you will be standing in the back like a jerkoff the entire time
