Is it good for college basketball

for traditional powerhouses most likely missing tournament

If UNC, UConn and Louisville fail to reach the NCAA tournament, it will be the first time since the NCAA began seeding the field in 1979 that three No. 1 seeds miss the tournament the following year.

Thoughts?

I think it's great for the sport. It allows a window of opportunity for a new team to come through and make a statement. There are a lot of talented teams in college basketball and not having UNC, UCONN, or Louisville in the dance won't have a big effect. For one, none of them are in a huge television market. Their fan bases are large but when it comes to the NCAA tournament, anything can happen so not having them there won't be an issue.

What is an issue, the fact that the NCAA wants to expand to 96 teams. Why do we always have to change something that is so perfect? Greed, money, and television rights seem to be taking over sports. In my opinion, allowing 96 teams in will take away some of the competitive drive that teams in the power conferences may have when it comes to season ending tournaments. Normal bubble teams will be in so now we are talking about the 105-96th best teams in the country having to worry about a slot in the dance. It just doesn't seam right to change what has been so great for years. 32 teams wasn't enough, so changing to 64 made March Madness what it is. 96 teams is too many and makes filling out a bracket less of an exciting task IMO.....

with the amount of teams and sheer excitement of the tourney i dont feel that a few top teams are out for one year because we know they will be back the following year

i also agree with NCAP that going to 96 teams is such a terrible idea. it will be so watered down with matchups that nobody cares about in rounds 1-3 that basically it will turn alot of people off.

i guess the only positive is that i go to a different 1/2 round site every year so there will be more to choose from, but you will see ALOT of empty seats if they do

IMO the only one of those 3 that desn't make the NCAA tourney is UNC

With Calhoun back on the bench the Huskies will finish winning 5 of their last 7 and steal an at-large bid

Ratings wise and revenue wise it definitely hurts, who do you think CBS would rather have playing in April, UNC or West Virginia?
