Question Government trying to make a statement on first day of regular season football?

It seems that way to me. It looks like they are trying to go after the big wigs in London. I don't think they will go after others who are not there knowing they will not succomb to pressure. What do you think?

Yes I did hear that. I still think it fails to get the votes and I know some disagree. I wish it would hurry though

If This Get`s To The Floor

of the Senate it`ll make the Reps. look even more ridiculous than they do now! Considering all the really important matters they have to consider in just over a month. This election is scarring the hell out of them as it should!!

What the U.S. is doing seems illegal to me.The World Court ruled against the U.S. on interent gambling in countries where it is legal. But thats the U.S.,if they don't agree with something in the world, they just ignore it and do their own thing.

You have to realize the power of the government. I worked for a local government agency and believe me, we basically did what we wanted to do when we wanted to do it. If we wanted you off the street, we found a way to take you off the street. This is what is happening now. If the Feds really want to put a stop to the offshore gaming business, they will put a stop to it. Remember, nailing the little guy who is making the wager does no good at all, because there are so many little guys out there. Nailing the guys who take the wagers is a much more cost effective way of achieveing their goals.

What is important to note here is that you do not live in a democracy. You live in a Federal Republic. You elect representatives to do your bidding in Washington. If you want this action stopped, you must put pressure on your elected officials to stop it. If not, they could put an end to offshore gaming, one way or another. Now even if this takes another two years or so, why should we have to live in fear of having our books shut down just before gametime week after week? This is an election year folks. The moral majority will use this as just another issue, and the politicians that are against it, but in tight races, really can't argue against stopping what many perceive as a vice. The situation may get a lot worse before it gets better, if it gets better. Let us hope for the best.

It appears they are going after these Public traded companies. I think they know everyday stock holders may not fight them like a Spiro would. Most of these guys would fight them tooth and nail so I think they are going after some they hope will not fight back.

BDQH - Not everyone believes this. It's not as simple as this. There are people in the US who will not put up with "we found a way to take you off the street". Eventually they are going to look like idiots picking on things when the country is crumbling around us with much more important life issues. It's time people stand up and fight! Not everyone gets scared of "lists" or "government threats". I think they like to play bully and scare whomever they can. Once this bill fails - this will ends this BS (JMO)

Jack, I totally agree with you, but ever since 9/11, "Big Brother" has been watching over you. There are hundreds of laws on the books that are totally rediculous, but still enforceable. Just like defense attorneys looks for legal loopholes to spring their clients, prosecutors look for the same loopholes to obtain warrants and bust them. It's a game. Let's face it. If a cop walked into a bar on Friday night, he could close it down because he would find at least one person over the limit, and that is all it takes. Do they do this? No. But remember, it was not that long ago (historically speaking) that this country outlawed drinking. I have worked inside the system. I do not put anything past the government. They basically have carte blanche because it is so easy for them to cover everything up. I say that if you want to pyut a stop to what will become a permanent nagging problem at best, pressure your elected officials to have the witch hunt ended.

I guess my feeling is big brother can watch whatever they want. I know I live my life like a good person. I have good morals. I don't hurt anyone. I have a heart. I am considerate of others. I don't have anything to hide. I, like many others, like to gamble and big brother is not going to stop me. Now they may do their best to try to scare me and scare others but eventually people in this country are going to get fed up. I understand your point. But if they don't understand the point - they will eventually embarass themselves. There is a lot of money in this industry (thus why they are even bothering) but eventually this money is going to be used to stop these bullies. JMO
