Grateful Dead alums plan first tour in 5 years
It looks like the old Dead are gettin' on.
Surviving members of the Grateful Dead say they'll regroup for a 19-city tour, their first since 2004, beginning April 12 in Greensboro, N.C. The group, which now just calls itself The Dead, announced its plans Thursday. Original band members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann have toured sporadically since the 1995 death of guitarist Jerry Garcia, but struggled to get along personally and artistically. They told Rolling Stone in November that they've worked out their differences, aided by a successful October benefit concert in Pennsylvania for then-presidential candidate Barack Obama. |

Glad these bands didn't dissipate due to missing "key members":
AC/DC - Bon Scott Black Sabbath - Ozzy Van Halen - DLR Iron Maiden - Paul Dianno (sp?) Pink Floyd - Syd Barrett / Roger Waters Misfits - Danzig Kiss - Peter Criss / Ace Frehley off the top of my head, I'm sure there are more that I'm missing. I'm all for bands carrying on. I really think it is more for the joy of the music and artistic expression than for the money. |

Lukester - what about your boys Metallica?
Not talking about Dave, but Cliff was certainly a key member of that band. Imagine if they dissolved when he died? -- Wow.... |

I know what you're saying Bob and I agree on most of the ones u named but not all. Maybe I'm thinking too much about movies where a sequel or "part 2" most often disappoint the viewer 99% of the time. But still.

I think we can name more bands out there in the nay than the yea. But there's always an exception to the rule.

Probably the most successful in changing members quite often is Deep Purple with at least 8 band editions. They haven't done much since Perfect Strangers. Steve Morse is a great guitarist but...
