Walter "Bubby" Brister is the best NFL athlete to have worn the jersey number 6 for his career. He may not have been a Hall of Fame quarterback, but he sure could sling the ball, and he has two Super Bowl rings to prove it.

Over an NFL career spanning the years of 1986 to 2000, Bubby Brister played behind center primarily for the Steelers, but picked up Super Bowl rings filling in admirably for the Denver Broncos. In fact, in 1998, when John Elway went down with an injury, Brister went 5-0 as the Broncos starting QB, finishing the season with a higher QB rating than Elway.*

Brister amassed some quality stats over his NFL career:

•14,445 passing yards in the regular season
•81 passing TDs
•1,207 completions
•54.6 career completion percentage
•546 rushing yards
•8 rushing TDs
Did you know........Bubby Brister was drafted by the Detroit Tigers to play pro baseball in 1981, before being drafted by the Steelers in 1986?

One of Bubby's famous quotes came after a 1991 game between the Houston Oilers and Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh was getting blown out, and coach Chuck Noll wanted to pull starter Neil O'Donnell and replace him with Bubby Brister to finish the hopeless game. Brister replied "I don't mop up for anybody."
