Question Is Greg Maddux a top 5 pitcher of all-time?

What do you think? And if not, who is better?

No. His playoff performances aren't good enough as far as I am concerned. It's tough to say though because you have to look at both playoffs and regular season Better pitchers are

Bob Gibson
Sandy Koufax
Walter Johnson
Warren Spahn
probably more but it would tske hours to do the research.

I can tell you this.....if I had to win one game.......I'd much rather have a lot of other pitchers like.............

Curt Schilling
Josh Beckett
Orlando Hernandez
John Smoltz
Bob Gibson
Sandy Koufax
Nolan Ryan
Jack Morris

completely disagree. Maddux is better than all but Koufax on that list. I'd include him with Clemens, Walter Johnson, Koufax and Gibson.

Also would rate Roger Clemens, Tom Seaver and Steve Carlton ahead of him.

Hello ????

4 Cy Youngs IN A ROW. Over 350 career wins (in the modern era). Best fielding pitcher of all time (a dozen gold gloves). He was THE pitcher of the 1990's.

One thing I really do give him credit for, though, is 15 wins or more for 17 straight seasons...that is a truly a showing of long term quality.

Hell ya he is!! In this era of offense he was the best pitcher for a number of years in the NL. When everyone was hitting longballs he still had an era in the low 2's. He is top 5!

He is great....but where was he in the playoffs? Choking out on the mound....that is where. Same with Clemens. He s a mediocre playoff pitcher. Plus..the roids

keeping mind you said "all time"

Cy Young (sorry, there will never be a "Greg Maddux Award"
Walter Johnson
Warren Spahn
Bob Feller (missed nearly 4 yrs during WWII)
Sandy Koufax

Maybe Lefty Grove (pitched on a bunch of poor or mediocre teams)

All of these guys pitched on 4 days rest, did not have access to the training and travel advantages that Maddux has...

Maddux did what he did when all the hitters were on steroids. None of those guys had to face that. He is as consistent as they come.

Keith, I'm no attorney, but you should never use something Joe Morgan says to "help" your argument... LOL!!!

Maddux is a great pitcher, but top 5 all time... you're going to get arguments no matter who is in it. I hated the Maddux Glavine Smoltz era... Always thought the umps were sucking Maddux's and Glavine's d*ck - always giving them calls a foot off the plate.... woudl love to see pitch tracker on those games like they have now... I think they are the reason for it...
