HD Antenna-Amount of Channels

I got 1 hooked up and I'm getting about 22 channels. Really happy with it. Anyone got one, how many channels, reception, hookup?

I've got one, it's an indoor-RCA model I picked up from Wal-Mart for ~$40. Works pretty good I get crystal clear HD for CBS, ABC, and FOX. Can't pick up NBC regularly due to some UHF stuff I don't understand. Other than that get a bunch of crap mexican channels I can't understand, some general public ones that I don't watch. Gets the job done though on weekends with crystal clear Hi-Def NCAA-F and NFL games

just get a ota antenna (20-30 bux) from walmart or any electronics store..then you need a receiver that can get ota hd channels. hook it up in 1 min, scan channels and you got your regular hd channels..abc, nbc, cbs, fox for free.

you get a crap other channels but its stuff like pbs and some spanish channels but not hd..still waiting on his reply on what his 22 channels are

in Canada he might be stuck with French channels instead of Spanish ones...all he probably understands or wants to understand is "voulez vous coucher avec moi ce soir?"

Various sizes just type HD antenna into your search engine or on Amazon and they'll have various types. Small little indoor ones to bigger one outdoor ones. Some come pre-assembled others you just need a screw driver to assemble. Attach one end of a coaux cable to you input on the Television and the other to the antenna. Positioning the antenna is the key. Outside is better than inside. I only received around 10 channels when I first set this up inside and none of the US channels but once outside the US channels from Buffalo started coming in.

Unless you got one of the earlier HD televisions you should be good to go right out of the box with your HD Antenna.

Here is a rundown of the channels I'm receiving. Those in bold are American channels I'm pretty sure of and the quality is all High definition in fact a tad better then what the cable company sends you because you are getting them directly so the signal is not compressed.

Channel 2 WGRZ-1
Channel 2 WGRZ-2 (Different than above universal sports channel)
Channel 4 WIVB CBS Affiliate
Channel 5 Good old CBC (Hockey Night in Canada)
Channel 7 WKBW ABC
Channel 9 CTV
Channel 11 CHCH I think
Channel 15 Some type of music channel with a mosaic pattern (not clear)
Channel 17 WNED-1 (High Def version)
Channel 17 WNED-2 (Standard Definition-old format)
Channel 17 WNED-3 (Different programming than above)
Channel 19 TVO (Educational and some decent movies, british programs)
Channel 23 WNLO
Channel 25 French Channel
Channel 41-1 Global
Channel 47-1 Omni CFMT
Channel 57 City TV (Used to have good movies on until it was bought out)
Channel 66 CKXI
Sun TV
Channel 69-1 Omni-2
Cool TV -Some type of teen program (not picking this up right now since I adjusted the antenna
Couple of other foreign channels

I dont get Fox but the Canadian channels pick up plenty of Fox programming. Plenty of football on Sunday including all the Bills games. I heard getting an amplifier will boast the signal so that may be the next step would love to pick up Syracuse football games from there feed that might be out of my range. I'll let you know how it turns out.

So I finally bought an HD Antenna at Walmart. They only had the $16.00 one so I took it for tryout. Connected it last night on my spare TV that I use for DVDs only and voila...got 7 free channels--basic ones but no matter (CBC, Global, CJOH, TVO, and 3 others that I can't remember). There is also a fine tuning knob with 12 settings that I could fetch more channels but haven't tried that yet. The clerk recommended I buy their best one at $66 but it was out of stock; even the $36 one was out of stock. I did a web search and depending on where one lives and the antenna one can fetch 12, 18, 20, 32 and up to 40 free channels in Canada. I'll be experimenting more with other antennas in the coming weeks. Thanx CC

Good Job Boris. Im guessing for $16.00 this is a smaller indoor type. One thing you might want to try to pick up additional channels is to mount a piece of sheet metal behind the antenna. It doesnt have to be attached to the attenna but directly behind it about a few inches and the sheet metal should be the length and width of the antenna. Might work but not maybe not with the indoor types. Let me know how you make out with the other antennas.

That is garbage. I couldn't live with that. I'll pay my 40 bucks a month and get hundreds of channels. Good luck.

this sounds very interesting to me...I have Directv and basic cable...If I can get rid of my monthly basic cable bill, it would be a bonus...

Its not for everyone. Depends on what you need. I get enough college football on Saturday and 4 games of NFL on Sunday with it. If there is a game I really need to see I'll go over to a buddys place or get it taped. Picture quality is appearantly better than what you would get over a cable line because your getting it directly uncompressed.
When baseball season comes along I'm gonna get the MLB package direct to the computer and pump it over to the big screen.

I have a ton of movie/concert dvds many sitting here still in shrink wrap that I've been unable to watch so I dont need to pay for movies and any new released material I can get off my chinese buddy. I dont watch sitcoms or reality programs so I why should I pay for something I dont need.
Later on Im going to hook up a KU band dish that will give me some more college football games and NFL wildcat feeds so that will be plenty for me without spending a dime.

Yes, that $16 Phillips antenna is for indoors--basically it's a digital rabiit-ears antenna.

I've seen the sheet metal thingy on the web...will get to that hopefully soon.

I just tried the $60 RCA amplified antenna Walmart has...still the same 7 channels.

They have a Phillips outdoor antenna for $45...i will look into that next.

The outdoor antenna should be the best for picking up more stations, suprised you never got more channels with the $60 antenna.
