Help Please puter problem

Hey guys got a little puter prob, need some advice, my buddy can't get online whenever he wants, last night he got on for 5 mins, then lost conectiion seems to be the same prob everyday, he pays $44/mth for high speed internet and they tell us the prob is on his end what could prob be ? Is he on cable? I had a bad cable modem that kept kicking me offline. Could be the modem or could be a bad nic.

NIC is network interface card, commonly called a network card or network adapter. It's what the cable modem is plugged into. You can get a new network card cheap, I'd try that first (around $10). If that doesn't work then I'd replace the cable modem. If the cable modem was supplied by the internet provider I'd call them and tell them to send me a new cable modem. If the modem was not supplied by the internet provider, those are about $70.

i agree with captain, though i would say its the modem before the network card, i had one fromt he cable company that would should everything was good, with the display lights and what not, and comcast came out and used some machine to test it and they just gave me a new one....twice.
