Hollywood Sportsbook taken over by Sportsbook.com (Sportingbet PLC)

Ever since January 2006 Hollywood had abruptly cancelled all advertisement commitments and declined to accept new affiliates, typical signs of a soon to be merger. Hollywood nearly sold its property to Pinnacle Sports 3 years ago but the wedding did not go thru at the last minute.

Ownership had been actively seeking a buyer for the property ever since consolidation of results of Doyles Room. Rumors of ongoing negotiations with more than one possible buyer had been circulating ever since November 2005.

Former owners will maintain a small stake in the operation. This condition was originally set to ensure continuity of the non post up portion of business.

what a shame...I book with hollywood, and 5 Dimes and a few others quite a bit--I just hope hollywood doesn't change to the sportsbook format or way of doing things...sportsbook is okay but IMHO, hollywood is MUCH better on service, lines, etc etc...

I really like both books. And both have pd out very fast, but i wonder what this will do to Bill Dozers A+ rating of Hollywood, since he really dislikes Sportsbook. will be interesting.

just checked sportsbook review, there's no story of buyout, but hollywood is now a "B." and off the recommended list.

Press release from Hollywood:

Hollywood Sportsbook International is a leading online sportsbook and casino operator based in San Jose, Costa Rica which has been sold in an undisclosed all cash transaction. As of Wednesday morning, Hollywood Sportsbook will now be operated by Sportingbet utilizing their state of the art technology and excellent customer care as a white label site.

The business is mainly conducted through the internet and will be integrated into the existing Sportingbet infrastructure in Costa Rica and Antigua. The acquisition also brings additional marketing expertise and enhanced channels for the US market. Hollywood is a well-positioned business in the growing online gambling market.

Eduardo Guillen, President of Hollywood Sportsbook, said “This is an exceptional step in the right direction for Hollywood Sportsbook, allowing us to maximize our marketing efforts by leveraging the strong infrastructure of Sportingbet.”

This represents a unique opportunity to match the well recognized and branded name of Hollywood with the expanding product base of Sportingbet. Hollywood’s online sportsbook and casino products will be complemented by the Sportingbet offering of horse racing, in running wagering, poker, and the newly upgraded casino product.

Hollywood’s existing customer incentive offerings will be maintained to the extent that the integration process permits. Additional customer bonuses that Hollywood will now be able to offer include a casino rebate program, a horse betting rebate program, -105 juice on Fridays, enhanced parlay and teaser odds, and a Million Dollar Poker Free Roll tournament in conjunction with Paradise Poker.

Any customer inquiries should be addressed to Victor at 1.800.220.0002.

What is a "white label brand"? I've seen this description of what Hollywood will be in the sportingbet family. Does anyone know what this means?

YEP!!!

Tried pullin money out and they cancelled my neteller withdrawal. Took 4 freaking days to get all my remaining 4,300 out of that account. Had to call victor and it took another 2 damn days!
Not sure why they cancelled the withdrawal in the first place but they gave some BS as to why they did.
They used to be pretty quick, within a few hours, for payouts! Now they're slow and i heard several stories of others having the SAME problem

Now the whole format of the book has changed to that of a kiddie book, ie Sportsbook.com. It's pathetic looking, i hate the new style!

I won't ever book with these clowns again now....Adios Hollywood!
