House hunting question

I am looking to steal a house... Anybody know of a site that shows appraisals and the selling price today? Or if there is anything like that out there...I had a friend that had a house appraised 4 years ago for 193k...he tried to sell it for the last two years and settled for 130k a month ago....I would have bought it, but the backyard was the size of my bathroom.....Im not in a hurry, but would like to see a deal that I cant pass up....any advice? I need to see some value.

Zillow will give you the recent sale price of an address/neighborhood... good if you don't have access to current real estate data (comps) from a realtor... you may be able so spot a house that is up for less than comps would be... assuming you take a look and it isn't a total POS...

Kat, no idea the market for Indy although I was there last year. Seems crazy and I did not like the Indy seen. Also, this was my opinion, didnt like the Indy area

You should be able to pick up a house for what you wannt. You are single and not sure what you are looking for. House prices are shit right now, ppl want to sell, real estate agents want to dump as well.

You can always counter what they say. Again, depends on what you want.

I live in a city 10 miles South of Indy....What didnt you like about Indy? Although Im not a city guy, it seems to be an alright city...whenever anyone comes to town to see me, they say that they love Indy.....I have my name out there to a couple real estate friends, I just wish there was a site that I could see all the great deals or wherever there could be lots of desperate sellers.

Hud dot org. Should be able to enter state then county. Huds are foreclosures and some aren't worth your trouble. Some just require minor work. I bought my house(more of a single starter home) for $67k. Appraised @ $105k. Had to fix a few holes in the walls and paint(which I was gonna do anyway).

I guess I was just basing my opinion on comparing Indy to other cities I really like. I am not a city guy myself and grew up and still live in a very small town no where near a big city. Was pretty drunk when posting last night

I never really got to roam around Indy, was always there in the winter, and it was always freezing. The parts I did roam I didnt enjoy, although I found a few hit and miss areas. I think my expectations for Indy were higher, although I dont find it to be the worst city I ever visited.

BOL in your hunt for finding a home and BOL with the financing and bank, my biggest pain in the ass when buying a house was the bank

Are you hesitant to use a realitor for a particular reason?

There are ton of homes up for short sale all over the U S. In the Chicago area, some townhomes in my area appraised for $300+ in 2007/2008 and are being sold now for $150 to $175

Use a realitor. Tell them what you want to spend and they will get you a look at everything in the range.
