I guess it depends on how squeamish you are.

With my wife's first C-section, I obeyed the doctor's orders and didn't peak over the screen they had up... with the second C-section, I was over with the two babies and did get to see more of my wife's guts than most people.

Being a firefighter in a former life though, blood, guts, brain, burns, etc don't really phase me - actually was more fascinated on how she was patching my wife back up...

Know your role and do your job. As said earlier, if you are squemish stay above the curtain. There are smells and sounds(if they cut her) that you need to be ready for. When your baby comes out(look at the clock), you will be overwhelmed with love and joy and thankfulness for your wife/girlfriend. Fight those feelings for a minute. YOU ARE A DADDY NOW, go check on your baby then report to her. That's gonna be her concern. Try to be relaxed, she will feed off you. Good luck and enjoy the moment. THERE IS NOTHING LIKE IT!!

the birth of my first daughter over 14 years ago remains a moment that will be forever etched in my mind.

The miracle of life. Nothing can beat that.

Evan: What? One name? ONE NAME!?!? Who are you? Seal?
Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?

^^this. I was overwelmed, worried for my wife, scared, disgusted when looking at what was taking place, happy with joy yet crying when they came out healthy. Dude, since my last post in this thread, there is Nothing that can prepre you for this experience. But holding your kid just after they are born is priceless. Your wife will look like she went toe to to with pacioa she will be spent of energy. You as a dad will want to tell the world about your newborn and how awesome he/she is. It's crazy in such a short period of time.

Know your role before you go in there. I stayed away from the horror zone and just held my wife's hand and coached (LOL) her through delivery. When it was over, I stepped outside the room pulled a flask from my pocket and downed some alcohol!

Suggest you go to the hospital and ask to watch a few other births to prep.....I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

Yeah, I have no desire to even take a peek 'down there' when the time comes, I'll be up near the head the whole time
