How did you start gambling?

I started by picking games with my dad.... while in High school.

we had a local book in SF named Sid... i remember droping off and picking up envelops of cash for a group of guys my dad knew.

Dime and nickels... It seemed he had to be careful what he said on the phone... It was all very on the down low.

I went 11-0 my first games... it was too funny my dad and his friends waiting on my picks.

Thought i was jimmy the greek and going to be a pro gambler.

Funny the way you think as a kid.

I've been gambling on the same money i started with during the NFL season..I'm very into money management and betting percentages of my bank....I just like having action.

When I was 10 years old I used to play quarters in the bathrooms during passing periods. This game is you get as many people as you can to play, and you all stand at the same spot and toss them at the wall. and who ever's quarter is closer to the wall you take all of the quarters. And then in High School we started playing poker during lunch, and then in college I had my first bookie and picking games. I haven't turned back since. But i got my start tossing quarters against the wall.

Great game.. I've thought about buying one to play it with my buddies kids.

One thing he did teach me is if your going to bet you will lose sometimes and have to pay up... Painful to part with $ as a kid

Penny poker with my friends when we were like 6 years old.
I remember when MTV first started we used to bet on the next video: you'd pick a number like next video, or second video, or third, etc. and whoever's video was the coolest would win.

I was betting dimes that I didn't have in High School with my uncle's bookie (an Irish mob guy - that got me front row tickets to Alice Cooper at the Boston Garden; Irish mob is cool). I got shut off when a guy at the his bar was talking smack about a 16 year old kid taking him for 3 grand in the Superbowl.

over the pond we did that with 'collectors' cards... mainly for soccer... in the US you surely would have done that with NBA or MLB trading cards

My first bet with a sportsbook was when I was underage. First bet lost.

We used to have homestay students come and stay when I was a teenager, fair to say I took them to the cleaners betting on rugby games. They were all puzzled how I could get it right so many times. With the students I don't think I ever lost a bet, but there was only around 8 bets and small fry stakes.
At school there were guys that were book-makers but none of them would accept my action. In fact I never found out about them and how they didn't want my action till I left school.

Your history can tell u alot about yourself, was winning back in the early days. Main thing that has improved over the years is my discipline, the winning has always been constant.

family always played cards.. Grandpa went to Vegas quite often for Gin Rummy tourneys... he played nickel/pt hollywood style scoring (3 games at once). He only lost one year in his life... So, that's where I got my start, but prefer holdem...

Dad always loved to go to Reno for Lake Tahoe, but we all know it was to gamble... but he only plays slots... shoot me in the head.. before I do that for more than 20 mins...

always daring friends at a young age to do stupid sh*t... I guess that's an early form of gambling - lucky I'm still alive.

i mean i don't do that shit for fun, i do it coz it makes money AND is fun, making the sports a little more interesting...
