depending on what suits were showing... if they were all different, I would just call that bet. if all 4 came out the same, I would fold

Depends on various factors Mac
But I will simplify

I have now found a fun way to play poker is study each opponent
and every time someone bets , try to determine what kind of
hand they have whether I am in the pot or not .
In other words ,

GO WITH YOUR GUT

This is the way to learn poker .

So in the above example it would depend on the players prior betting patterns.

If no prior ,(new player)
also depends on chip vs chip count.
If he has $ 500 in chips and you have $ 1000 , his $ 250 bet more valuable
than yours at the moment.

If he has $ 2000 and I've got $ 1000 ,
I can raise to see if I'm not sure .

low stakes doesnt matter...there are bad players at even the higher games..one can be good and still play low stakes...just dont want to take a higher risk

To me, it depends on your chip stack, his chip stack and what your read says.

Has this been aggresive before? Suits is very important. It really depends on the player and the style of the game. Sometimes everyone is loose and trying to be the next pro.Positon may also be a factor.

It's strange but you've got to take all these factors into account really quick.

I Do Know it's 13-1 TO FLOP THE SET. Really unlikely that you both did, but it's possible. Happened to me more than once.

Anyways hope you didn't lose your stack, and this story has a happy ending.

Good Luck!!

I fold now...didnt like the play on the flop though Mac

I would have raised him to about $250-$300 after the flop just to feel him out. If he comes over the top for more than $500 more I fold.

Really depends on the "feel" and how aggressive he was though...I bet you folded though and he showed you QQ

exactly. i dont play 10 cent tables really. but I also don't play 5/10 NL.

The games I do play are just as beatable as the bigger ones they just take more time to put in since you arent making as much, but there is less of a risk on the overall bankroll.

You must of had a great read on him to call a 6.5x BB raise with pocket four's on the button, for sure this was a sick call you made.

The rest of your question however can not be answered, just because of the lack of info that you have given.

You left out:
1. Any reads & style of play the other guy was playing.
2. What position did he make his $75 bet from EP, MP, LP
3. The suits of your cards and the board cards.

With the info you did post I say you prob. took the hand down. I do not think you would post a hand of about 1k that you lost, because that is what this pot is going to turn into. I also feel that you are not going to let the trips go.
Just a educated guess on my part.

The other guy could be on a range of hands, if he made his $75 bet from EP I would for sure put him on a PP something like AA-JJ Since I do know the flop and I feel you won the hand by not getting another 4 on the river, we can just rule out the AA right now. I will put him on a range of AK-AQ KK or even a KJ. His bet of $75 pre is high for 5/10 NL So I may even get rid of him having a hand like KK. It almost looks like he wants to buy the pot with his AK-AQsuited or his KJ str8 draw. With the lack of info I can put him on Two pair AQ, AK<---TPTK or even a str8 draw with a KJ.

Final: I think he flips AQ two pair and you take it with your trips. BTW: nh

Yeah, Seanie Mac you aren't an above the rim poker player to fold a set. I mean you play the low pocket pairs to flop a set and take down a big pot. You flop a set and you fold?
