Question How old do you have to be to get a drivers liscense in your state?

And do you think it should be younger or older?

16 years old in Texas. Yes, i think that it should be older. 17 years old for a learners permit and 18 years old for a full drivers license.

In Canada, well at least Ontario... When I first got my licence the rules changed in Ontario and we got something called - Graduated Licencing.
My dad used to let me drive around an empty Sears parking lot when I was younger (14-15) to get the feel of the car when the time was approaching for driving... I think having this experience was helpful to know comfort level...

Firstly... written test to get a beginners permit...
2. must go to school to learn written fundamentals of rules and there is also a mandatory amount of hours behind the wheel
3. after 8 months you can go and drive with the Ministry of Transportation and pass their road test to get the second level of your permit. However if you do not take a training course you must wait one year after your beginners permit to take this class...
4. after one year of having your second level of permit you can then go for another road test and get your offical drivers licence which is then renewed every 5 years, but at any time after you have your full graduated licence the Ministry can ask you for another road test... this is based I believe on tickets and such... happened to a friend of mine after 4 years of driving...

I've been driving since I was 16... have had one speeding ticket and no accidents... I'm now 27...
But I do believe in some instances people pass the road test when they shouldn't... I suppose it depends on the mood of the instructor at the day of the exam... I have been cut off many, many times by some of these kids in training...

16yo here...18yo is prolly a good idea. They are just introducing where a new driver can't have anyone else in the car other then license holders for the first 6 months. Something like that anyways.

New driver with friends in a car is bad news

In Colorado.Permit at 15 and 6 months if you take driving school. 16 if not.Lic at 16 with school but no one under 21 passengers till 16 and 6 months.Without driving school you have to have a permit for a year.I like the long wait periods I makes them have more drive time before they can have friends with them. All that does is cause problems.

I should have said.....I actually think it should be 18, u see alot of hoons and bad young drivers, this is backed up on the road accident stats.

Although when I was 16-18 I had a different take on it !
