Hung's Top 35 Albums

I thought it would be interesting to try to write down my favorite albums of all time. These are albums that I can listen to, from start to finish.

Some of you know that I work in the music business and I'm in my early 20's. But there aren't many albums after 1999 that are worthy, to me.

This is in no particular order. The dates next to them are based on memory, so it might be off. It was hard enough keeping this list to 35!

1. Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction (1987) - Just a great, raw, rock album.
2. Violent Femmes - Debut Album (1981) - Did they record this in their garage? Love it and the witty lyrics.
3. Metallica - And Justice For All... (1987) - Sonic perfection.
4. Queens of the Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf (2001) - Former members of Kyuss created an exceptional album.
5. Vendetta Red - Sisters of the Red Death (2005) - This is the only album I've ever seen with 3 warning stickers on it. Lyrics such as "I'll have God kill your mother" will do that. One of the grandest, melodic arena rock albums, ever.
6. Nirvana - Nevermind (1991) - Wow. Cobain: RIP
7. Faith No More - Epic (1989) - Borderline schizophrenic. Amazing.
8. Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals (1993) - Sent chills down my spine when I first heard this album.
9. Toad The Wet Sprocket - Fear (1991) - Just downright good.
10. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik (1990) - I just love this band. Keedis and Flea, great combo.
11. The Cure - Disintegration (1986) - Dark and sad. Perfect!
12. Alice In Chains - Dirt (1993) - One of my favorite bands, ever.
13. Motley Crue - Girls, Girls, Girls (1988) - Might take heat for this but, overall, it's the best from the Crue.
14. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream (1992) - Might be my favorite album of ALL time. Billy Corgan is a musical genius. He not only wrote the whole album but played every instrument in the studio. New album due out next year
15. Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet (1986) - I'm a sucker for melodic rock.
16. PJ Harvey - Rid Of Me (1993) - The only appearance from a female-led band. PJ is not typical female rocker. Very artistic.
17. Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine (1989) - Along with Nirvana's Nevermind, this album help kill hair metal.
18. Bad Religion - Stranger Than Fiction (1994) - A classic punk band with a classic punk album.
19. A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms (2001) - Manerd doesn't hide his hate for God on this album. Anger filled and soothing, all at once.
20. Def Leppard - Hysteria (1987) - One of two albums by DL that has sold over 20 million copies.
21. Pearl Jam - Ten (1991) - Vedder sings about his troubled life of beatings and sadness. Very emotional piece of work.
22. Thrice - The Artist In The Ambulance (2003) - This band/album helped me and the band I was with, get inspired to get in the music business. Two albums, an EP, countless Canadian/US tours, two Warped Tours and an arena tour later (arena tour was with Thrice and The Deftones), this album was a career changer.
23. Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime (1988) - On the edge of technical genius, this band is amazing.
24. Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger (1991) - Was their last good album before they became a radio band. The bass on this album is deafening.
25. Sugar - Copper Blue (1993) - Bob Mould started Husker Du in the 80's. Then, created Sugar in the 90's. Simply a genius.
26. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication (1998) - This album snuck up on me. This band can't get it wrong!
27. Goo Goo Dolls - Dizzy Up The Girl (1995) - Again, I'm a sucker for bands that can write melodic, catchy songs. Especially if they are sad.
28. Megadeth - Countdown To Extinction (1992) - This album is credited to be the 'smartest' album of all time. Every word on this album averages almost 2 syllables a word. Big words, big music (these sentences averaged 1.48 syllables a word).
29. The Cure - Wish (1989) - Again, sadness at its best!
30. Nirvana - In Utero (2004) - Cobain's last stand.
31. The Black Crowes - Shake Your Money Maker (1990) - Southern rock with a hint of weed.
32. Live - Mental Jewelry (1990) - Way before their platinum success, this album has true indie roots. No radio songs here.
33. Depeche Mode - Violator (1988) - Sad, sad, songs. I am beginning to see a theme.
34. Green Day - Dookie (1994) - Catchy, crafty, pop-punk at its best.
35. MuteMath - Debut Album (2006) - This band was on the last Warped Tour. Simply amazing. Take Sting with a splash of Fleetwood Mac, a dash of Depeche Mode and a drummer thats insane. Very catchy.

Almost made it: Whitesnake, U2, Radiohead, Better Than Ezra, The Used, Jim Croce, Prince, Local H, The Offspring

Great album. I might say Master was better but I can't argue with this.

Dr. Feelgood was their best IMO.

Against the Grain was a far better album.

Rust in Peace is sick. Holy Wars is a kick ass song. Countdown is a good album too but just not the same sound. You could say they "sold out" with this album.

Dookie is another "sell out" album. Give Kerplunk a listen.

A couple of albums off the top of my head that are missing from the list.

Deftones - Around The Fur

Weezer - The Blue Album

Tool - Lateralus

I debated both the Weezer and Tool albums. I love both bands but, when it comes to ones I constantly listen to, they just missed.

I was on tour with The Deftones and their cool guys but never really got into their music.

Those are great albums but this list is just what I listen to, the most. But I like both of those albums, for sure

THANK YOU! No hip-hop on the list? I know it's subjective, I'm a hip-hop head and my top albums would definitely still include music from all genres.

Now that I think about it, I should've put Outkast in there

Great album here, I was into Live when Mental Jewelry came out and the very much unheard of "4 Songs" was released. I do believe that "Throwing Copper" was the best of their CD's, I think all in all it was a much stronger album.

My #1 is either CCR - GreenRiver (or their greatest hits album) or Low End Theory

CCR is the ultimate garage band and Tribe quite simply made the best Jazz Rap Hip-hop fusion album to date and their hasn't been a group like them since in the hip-hop world. Both albums are smooth like butter baby, its like butter baby, its like butter... How about these lyrics from the Low End Theory:

I remember when,
Girls were goodie two shoes, but now they turned to freaks
Allofasudden "we love you phife" - ease of ho, my name's malik
Phife this, phife that, where you goin', where you at
These girls don't know me from jack, yet i feel like the mack
You didn't want me then, so hon, don't want me now
Here, here - take the towel, wipe off your brow
And take the ccontact out your eye, you're far from lookin' fly
You get an e for effort, and t for nice try
Now tell me what's the reason, for dyin' your hair
Slum village gold still danglin in your ear
You barely have a neck but still sportin' a rope
Four-finger ring just so phifer can scope
You looked in the mirror, didn't know what to do
Yesterday your eyes were brown but today they are blue
Your whole appearance is a lie and it could never be true
And if you really loved yourself then you would try and be you
If your hair and eyes were real, i wouldn't have dissed ya
But since it was bought, i had to dismiss ya
If you can't achieve it, then why not try and weave it
If you can't extend it then you might as well suspend it
If you can't braid it, best thing to do is fade it
I asked who did your hair and you tell me "diane made it"
If you were you and just you, talk to you, maybe
But i can't stand, no bionic lady
Tryin' hard to look fly, but yo, you're lookin' dumber
If i wanted someone like you i woulda swung with jamie summers
You wanna be treated right, see father mc
Or check ralph tresvant, for sens-a-tiv-i-ty
See i am not the one, i got more game than parker brothers
Phife dog is on the mic and i'm smooth like butter . . .

And the truth shall set you free...
