I just blew a HUGE chunk of my bankroll in poker :(

Just needed somewhere to vent... it isn't the end of the world but I'll just explain.

(might want to skip the next part if you don't care about details)

I consider myself a decent poker player, and when I play with friends I usually kick their ass. Anyway, online I have been doing good in the sit n go games because I would just fold until I got a good hand, and I was making small, but consistant profit everyday, rarely having a losing day. This usually saved my ass if I had a bad day in sports. Today I decided to try playing the poker tournaments... BIG mistake. The first three times I played I won twice, and placed second the other. I figured, this is easy money! Then, cards stopped falling my way, it was a combination of bad luck and bad beats and I just couldn't get the cards. The problem with the tournaments is the blinds build up so quickly and eventually you are FORCED to do something, I don't like that. I like being able to fold a hand if I don't like it. Maybe that means I am not the best poker player, but all the advantage I had in waiting until I got a hand I was sure of was gone.

So I had been playing all night, and bought into about 10 consecutive tournaments and havn't won squat!! The first few tournaments where cards went my way on all ins set me up to just keep trying and thinking well I'll win the next one and get it back.. stupid, stupid me. I just couldn't stop, even when I blew most of my bankroll, I was like well I'm due to win, I just want to end on a winning note... When I noticed that my bankroll was EXTREMELY low I eventually stopped... Man, I was on top of the world earlier today when all my baseball plays were doing well, and I won those first few tourneys, I wish I quit while I was ahead.

Anyway... I'm done playing in those god damn things, too much luck involved, I would rather wait and wait until I can pick a hand to play. The only positive note is that I am starting to cap baseball really well, and I am going to STICK TO JUST BASEBALL from now on. I think if I stick to a few good bets a day in bases I will get my bankroll back up.

Sorry for this rant, and sorry if you wasted your time reading this. I just couldn't sleep tonight unless I let it out, lol. I'm just going to have to wake up tommorow and kick the bookies ass!

Hey FTW!! I have never played online poker but have been playing the real deal my whole life! The one thing online cannot offer is the ability to read people. To me, online is strictly odds while the live game mixes both odds and hustle. The latter being why i love the game. I also don't dig a computer dealing a deck i can't see! I want to see the cards, feel the cards ect. Sorry about the loss man and the way you been smokin in baseball, you'll get it back soon!!!

Thanks a lot yarddog. Yea, I love playing poker in real life, a lot of people I play with are either very easy to read, or play a certain way. I can usually pick up if they have a hand or not very easily. Online poker sucks, you can't see who is dealing the cards, you can't see the players... and for some reason whenever I have AK going against KJ or something, guess what comes up? Usually a Jack, if not like 3 jacks! Seriously, some rediculous crap has been happened to me, I'll be like 75% favorite to win the hand and the other person will flop like 3 of the card they need like one isn't enough, add freaking insult to injury. If I have AK going against a pocket pair, they ususally get trips, if I have a pocket pair going aginast AK at LEAST an ace or a king, or a few of each come up.

Enough of that, just frustrated with that crap. Anyway, I am going to just play the sit and go, like I was doing. Those are good cause people are usually in their just playing for fun, and they play every hand. If you are patient enough you can get a hand that you are 99% sure is the top hand, and make some bets and you will get callers.

Just going to try and get a little bit in poker in each day and stop, and try to keep the profit rolling in baseball.

And at least I learned that these tourneys are no good at all for me, so now I know to avoid them. Who knows, if I hadn't played today I would of played someday down the road and blew even more of my money. Better that it is over with now... I have pretty much lost all the money I made in the last few weeks of football gambling, so things have been rough, but I think I learned a lot of things that can only be learned through experience. I don't think you can just be told about money management and stuff like that unless you try at it.

So, pretty much going to start fresh now, now that I have the knowledge, I think I can make some money.

With ya on the knowledge thing bro!! So many lessons learned over the years but each one makes us better over the long haul! Stick with the sit n go games as they seem to play in to the style your comfortable with. Been following you in baseball and i know your going get back the losses from poker! Baseball is awesome from a betting perspective!

most people who gamble have a game they love but aren't very good at, I discovered I need lots of work against football pointspreads. I dominate su pools at work, averaging around 11 wins a week, but this year when I went against points I got tentative, overanalyzed things and gave poor teams too much credit. will play football small next year and see if things improve.

get 'em back at what you're good at, it's all a learning process unless we bust out.

i lost like 800 playing on party poker......man i won 280 in the 1st 30 mins i played, and lost my ass the other time

so i decided to only play in tourneys. and i did what you did, small, consistant profit. so i got nuts and let all of my 250 left in my account ride on one big tourney. theres was 247 people in it. and you have to finish i think it was 34th to get in the money. i busted out at 36. i had the nuts flush after the turn......but the board was paired. guy called my all in and hit another ace on the river to make the boat. he was sitting on A-A....blows dick......i deposited like 4 times after that losing all my money every time

i got this theory , where you win alot in the beginning and they make you lose it all eventually so u keep depositing......i mean in the end they get the money after all the rakes they take it. the amount of hands played at cash game tables are astounding in just 1 minute

im not gonna boast, but im really good at hold em. i started playing when it got bih with Moneymaker, but I see around 1,000-1500 hands a week at home games and back alley/bar games. ive played in games that were $5 buy in, and games that were $500 buy in.........and im not even 21.

the weekend is nuts for me. i play in 10-20 games from friday night to sunday night. anywhere there is a game i try to get there.....i know alot of underground gamesm, with people too lazy to drive to Atlantic City, and thats where I got good. Plus my friends are good, so every time we just play a hom games, its intense.

stay away from it, it doesnt help ur game at all.

That sounds like a pretty bad beat... especially being so close to finishing in the money.

Anyway, I made some money back today the way I had been doing before I got into that tourney frenzy. I am just going to try and make a little bit back each day and get back to even in poker over time. Meanwhile going to try and make profit in baseball.
