The thing is that I really don't know whats out there. Anything dealing with people is my forte......You really don't want me working on an assembly line making $11 and hour...that's a waste to a company...I think Im prob looking for a job that you need to know someone to get past the resume to get a look.

I'm thinking that we have 48 million members here that someone might know someone or work at a company that has one in Indy that I might check out......My first sales was with a garage door company...which I actually enjoyed. I then worked doing sales for a fence company until the had major cut backs.

Real Estate Sales, its all up to you.... if you have to beat the street at first you do, go thru the malls asking every manager in the office, ect... be involved in your kid support activities (peeps love that knowing you care about family and kids) some of your classes you took in college might count towards real estate credit hours, ect. What you make at that job in 3-5 years is basically how hard you work, timing is great. Work 8-10 hrs a day, 1 of every 3 weekends starting, work hard and go with good company that has great training program (Century 21), but find good office that trains... and 100K a yr is not out of the question in 3-5 yrs, 30K first year very feasible..... but its up to you, nobody will do it for you, and sitting in the office doesnt get deals done! I actually met with a guy from Carpenter and he told me all about the business and their company.....He said the first thing you have to do is take the classes...Its around 500 out of your pocket, then take the test ($100) and something else that around 50. Then they would hire you and you wouldnt get paid until you basically sold. You then get paid 30 days after you have sold a house...So, I'm talking about a couple months without a paycheck which I prob can't do...especially since there is no guarantee that I will sale a house and no type of draw involved. If I go the real estate route, it would be part-time and take classes whenever. The guy said they would hire me and I would do well in the business............Thanks for the suggestion. ps...I dont have any kids

My Son works in sales and loves it. He first started selling Gym training sessions for Golds gyms and made really good money. He quit that for selling alarm systems for homes. Here in Utah there are a bunch of companys that do this. They travel out of state and work for 4 months and the good ones make 100K IN THAT SPAN OF TIME.
He is in Calif. right now but might be changing companys to go work with some friends of his that work for a bigger company. They pay for his apartment when he bis in another state plus bonus's after you reach certain levels and travel to get there. The better you are you can negotiate alot of these things.
I don't know if they have these Companys where you are at but its something to look into.

I definitely understand what you mean there....I went back to school about a year ago, finishing up my associate's now at a community college then transferring to penn state's online program and then probably going to do some grad work, i'm 35 so i figured i better do it now before the kids start going in a few years

it isn't easy while working f/t and having a family but hopefully it works out

as far as you looking for a job, what popped into my head immediately was what my brother does, sell commodities....he got out of the military and ended up opening up his own small firm here....you get your series 3 license which isn't very hard, i actually thought about it myself but i don't want to sell anything, i hate people.......it's phone sales with a lot of potential, m-f, weekends/holidays off
I'm not sure what they have in terms of firms in your area so you'd have to check it out, could pass the test in a few weeks and be on your way

if that's a route you decide to take i could probably lend you my series 3 book to study for the test, save you a few hundred bucks so you don't have to buy one

no matter what you end up doing, good luck!

If you are good w/ people then talk to some HR people at various companies. You'd have to be willing to go back and get the other 2 years. HR has unlimited possibilities. Get the other 2 years though and you can walk right in easily.

You could always look into becoming a distributor in the food business. Companies like Little Debbie, Mission, Barrel of Fun, etc are always looking for independant distributors. Basically run your own business and education level is not required. Allows you to take several small business deductions on your taxes and you can make good money in the right situation.

If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.” ---Jim Valvano
