i'm new to all of this

this may be a really stupid question, but my friends years ago were all blackjack fiends. we all lived in nj and were very close to AC so we went all the time. i never played one time. i sat through marathon sessions that would last all night and into the afternon of these guys cranked up playing. they won outrageous amounts at times and would lose the same amount very quickly sometimes.
as i find myself now older, 32, and with a bankroll i built over time with sportsbetting, i want to play blackjack.
my AC friends have all come and gone, btu i remember them talking about counting cards...
how did you guys learn this?is there any place in which i can purchase something to teach me this skill?i'm really curious about this.
sorry for being long winded. i truly appreciate everyones help!!

These two books are a good place to start:

Professional Blackjack by Stanford Wong

Knock-Out Blackjack: The Easiest Card-Counting System Ever Devised byOlaf Vancura and Ken Fuchs

I've never layed a single dollar on a table game but good luck counting cards. They employ people to look for this

As far as I know and there has been some speculation as to the authenticity of the story but...The MIT kids that did this had a system that invloved code and about 6 people.

I really think you are wasting time, but it won't hurt to study basic blackjack strategy. That should certainly help

The MIT kids were real and it's in a fun to read book that is becoming a movie. But that stuff is way too high level for any single person to bother with.

My suggestion to the successful sports bettor - don't stop with the sports, and don't bother with blackjack.

In blackjack, you are hoping/waiting for one of two things to happen, hopefully both: a good run of cards, and good luck.

If you think about that for a moment, you will realize why it's a waste of your time. You are hoping that you will be lucky, and that the cards will go your way. Is that really what you want to do for 8 hour stretches?

In sportsbetting you decide everything -- you can pick either side of any bet, there is just the juice. Therefore, you control your own fate completely.

Take it from someone who has already been down the road in the opposite direction. Yes, I know a few people who do great at bj, but that is a few out of several hundred. After hours and hours and thousands of hands, I am completely bored with the game because as I said, even if you win, it is after a long stretch of hoping for 1) a good run of cards and 2) good luck.

The original blackjack book that truly used statistics to prove that the player could have an edge was called, "Beat the Dealer". The tables he provides are still effective even today.

I can count well but I just learned it for fun because there are very few (if any) casinos that use one deck or one deck shoes. Most have several decks, which makes the advantage of card counting very small.

i was just looking for something new.i'll read the books. i see what i can pick about abou tthe game, if i'm not feeling it, whatever. i truly appreciate you guys taking time out of your day to answer my questions.you're the best
