I'm so tired of this
I know it's a tech for hanging on the rim but this rule needs to go. Guys are too athletic now. It wasn't showboating. The refs need to use more common sense. Momentum should be taking into account.
That is all. No words were spoken. |

2nd one now in the Ala/AU game.
But as the announcer said (because of his momentum) if he'd let go when the refs probably wanted to let go, he'd have landed on his head. He had to wait to swing back before he let go.

Could you imagine.
They'd have to raise it high enough to eliminate dunks altogether (if you can dunk, you can grab the rim) and they'd never do that. Dunks, especially on breakaways, are the home runs of basketball. They get the people up out of their seats. And the NBA would have to lead the way, since otherwise, everyone else would be playing on a non-regulation court. Never in a million years. Every playground across the US and Europe would have to change their rim heights.

Also, it's just a dumb call. If there is CLEAR showboating, then okay. But it's not like backboards break anymore. A few years ago, hanging on the rim (Shaq-early-days-style) busted backboards, and that was time-wasting and expensive.

They need to improve with the athletes I say. Times and standards change. Keep up or go backwards.

No, Sportsreport, I got you. I didn't think it was a serious recommendation, but it just got me thinking about what it would take to do something like that. Pretty much impossible.

He didn't have to let go immediately to fall on his head, but he didn't have to pull up like he did. That technical was actually much better than the first one, but both were good calls.
