Interesting take on the sports gambling bill

Heard an interview on local radio here yesterday from the sportsbook director for all the MGM-Mirage properties

The interviewer asaked him if he thought the bill would hurt the offshore books and help Vegas and his opinoin was that it would hurt or help neither. He thinks it won't have much of an effect, at least in the near term, on offshore books

What he did say that was interesting is that he thought the bill would be the beginining to the end of online poker. He said he thinks the poker industry was the main target because of all the young people who have taken up poker. He said he didn't see much of a future for the poker sites and thinks the poker boom will end fairly abruptly.

Again, this was his opinion

Definitely an interesting view. I have thought all along that the poker boom, has had a cause and effect in all of this. Not necessary the target, of the bill, but it has brought , internet gambling, to the attention of lawmakers.
The upperclass, in this country are nervous! Their sons /daughters, want to play poker for a living, instead of finishing their Ivy League education, or working for a living ,at a corporate job. So many young players, at the WSOP this year, their 10 k buy-ins, bought from their allowances and trust funds.
Even if they qualified through online sites, how much did they spend for that coveted WSOP package ? Some nearly 10K, others paid even more than the 10K buy-in. Others, yet failed to get there, spending fortunes, while trying. Poker is Ameica's new addiction. To these people , it is a threat , to their way of life and future generations, of their high society class.
Hence, the pressure on Senators and Legislature, to do something.
As far as the end of online poker. All things change. What is cool today, is not cool tomorrow. He might be right, the online poker boom, might come to an end, but I feel it will take much more than this bill, for it to reach it's demise.
