Absolutely no good reason for their illegality.

i've always wondered why not set-up a "super computer" in vegas where all online accounts are held. then for tax purposes all players would be sent w-2's and be required to pay taxes on winnings and all losses would be taxed by fed. gov.

The biggest question I have is why does almost every single paper in the US post lines when sports gambling is illegal in the US for the most part

I've had a change of opinion on this subject.
Won't win many friends around here with it either, but its just my opinion on the subject, don't take it personally.

Its been legal here for a long time with the government cashing in on it big time, they pretty much have a monopoly on the market.
The TAB's as they are known really are a very sad sight during the day. You see the same people in there day after day. Looking more and more unhealthy everytime you see them. A high % of them are down and down big. They spend there days gambling and losing in the long run. Imagine what greater things some of these people could be contributing to society if they weren't doing this? I am talking a large population of people scattered around the many TAB's. The number is increasing all the time. Everytime you turn on the radio or TV for 5 minutes or more you hear an advert from a person whose live has been ruined, with advice with how to get help, the help I might add is also funded by the government (If that isn't ironic I don't know what is).

Yes there are people that win in gambling and I'm included in that it is been either my only income, or part of my income for the past 15 years. The problem is for every one person that wins there are 70 or so that lose. I'm afraid legalisation is likely to only increase the number of people gambling and therefore increase the massive burden on society.

and they have much more working against them betting at TAB's than we do here where alot of us bet on sports with online sportsbooks.

The vig at the TAB's is poor. Horse racing is huge (tougher to win at than sports IMO), sports is secondary big time.....oh and the nearest slot machine is always in walking distance of a TAB, miny casinos are everywhere too.

Sportsbetting alone accounts for very few of the problem cases.
