Your mind doesn't have to see the "reality" of something happening for it to be affirmed. If you visualize yourself hitting a game winning home run and give yourself the feelings the associated with that, your mind thinks it actually happened. If you bombard your subconscious with an affirmation, it has no choice but to give in eventually.

How long that takes depends on how bad your negative programming was before and how dedicated you are to doing the affirmations

the subconscious is the most influential and persuasive mechanism of the human condition, I doubt its easily manipulated by consciously situated positive affirmations

it hasn't proven to be, that's basically mixture of survivorship bias coupled with attribution error

you don't hear about the people who failed miserably from using the theory of positive affirmations

what bisket, I think, because it not clear what exactly hes talking about, is changing ones emotional state

it is possible, through this kind of applied psychology

as for actualizing goals in reality, this a lot more about visualizing having obtained a goal

then your brain find the paths to get there vs simply affirmations

there's 2 main reasons they would fail

1) It was mainly an egotistical affirmation. It didn't jive with you emotionally and spiritually.

2) They didn't do it long enough. In the physical world there's a lag time before your manifestation can happen. You're not going to wish for a Mercedes and get it 2 days later. It will seem like no progress is being made, even though big changes are being made under the surface. After patience and faith, you will start to see the fruits of the labor.

It's just like a lot of other areas in life where people quit right before the good stuff starts to happen.

justifying failure or success in retrospect is also an example of the conceit of hindsight

work hard, get lucky, everything else is either commentary or drivel (i.e. positive affirmations)
