Post Iowa to legalize sports betting ?

Iowa Democratic Senators Jack Kibbie and Steve Sodders have submitted separate proposals to the state’s Racing and Gaming Commission to offer sports betting at racetracks and riverboat casinos, the Quad-City Times reported Thursday night.

“I think we ought to have sports betting in Iowa,” said Kibbie, who estimated sports wagering could generate $100 million per year for the state. “They’re probably betting on them anyway, but we’re not getting any tax. I think it would raise a lot of money.”

Sodders’ bill is outlined to allow for gambling only on professional sports while Kibbie’s proposed measures include amateur sports betting.

In 1992, the federal professional and amateur sports protection act was passed which made sports betting illegal in all but a few of U.S. states. Even if the senators’ bills passed in state legislation, they would still have to be approved by the federal government.

“We think that we ought to be able to regulate that here and have sports betting if Iowa desires to do that in our casinos,” said Sodders. “Why not let them do that betting here than in other states that are getting the revenue for that?”

In other state gambling news, Delaware appealed the Supreme Court's restrictions on sports betting in its state Wednesday.

yeah it is...all spreads are .5...also can do teasers....but only thing they offer is nfl...not even ncaaf...is pretty pointless

but i didn't think any states other than nevada, montana, oregon and delaware had the opportunity to allow sports betting? so how is iowa going to get over that hurdle?
