IPod Help

My son turns 10 next week, wants an IPod touch wwhatever that is. I am not up on this stuff as u can tell. He is a a whiz on the puter and even has shown me how I have not been using my cell phone to its full potential, hehe.
Tonight we had another negotiation session as to why he should get 1 and which apps he would need and how he would download them and what he would be using them for its all greek to me. Told him I'd get him his own laptop for now but its IPod or nothing in his opinion.

So I sure could use some input from the Mall.

Is he to young ?

Can I somehow have any control of what he is doing with it ?

And of course because I am a softie and will end up getting it for him is there a starter model or model you recommend that I get for him he seems to know what he is talking about when we discuss it, well we don't really discuss anything he talks and I sit there with this blank look on my face and listen.

Thanks in advance. Cheers Steve
