Cool Jesus in sports

This thread is in no way meant to offend anyone

Does it bother you when a player acts like the lord made him win?

It's one thing to believe but some thing god and sports should be somewhat separated.

Thoughts?

I have no problem with someone thanking the Lord (or Jesus) after they have triumphed in a sporting event. Why is that any different than them thanking their high school coach, or their Mom, or anyone else for that matter.

Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?

No problem at all with it actually but this topic has dominated the talk radio last week and they were asking if some take it to far. It started because of Tim Tebow but ended up as a huge topic

A lot of people will thank God/Jesus even when they lose. They're just glad to have the opportunity. I have no problem with it at all, despite my own personal issues with religion.

It doesn't bother me at all, it adds to the entertainment. My wife and I laugh all the time about the concept of God rooting for one particular team or player over another. Every believing sports star seems to believe that Jesus is rooting for him and his team. My question is who will Jesus be rooting for on SuperBowl Sunday? If I knew I'd be rich.

it bothers me when guys rapping about shooting someone and F---- bitches and ho's, slinging drugs...etc...

and then gets up on stage and thanks jesus. really, you just committed 3 sins but thank you jesus that I am profiting from it

in sports if its done right then I dont have a problem with it, but the problem I have is when its taken to far ( TEBOW) and its the basis of what that person is all about. Although I know its very important to that person, which is fine, its just something I always dont need to be reminded about.

What Tebow did or does is no different week in or week out for him, in other words he is very consistant. He is strong in his belief and one of the things that he believes in is spreading God's word. He does it in a way that is not preaching or telling you that you have to believe in his way or any particular way at all.

By the way, Tebow had John 3:16 on in the National Championship game. Although I learned this verse when I was a child, I find it amazing that it was googled thousands of times after the game.

oh, im not saying there is anything wrong with it but I want something else besides that. because when its all you hear about then you want something else to define that person and for people that dont "believe" it can be a turnoff.

to each their own and I think he is a tremendous role model for kids today

Your right Windy City, it can be a turn off for people that do not believe.

Sorry to turn it into a discussion on Tebow.

i mean. i really dont practice it, have never read the bible, only go to church for weddings, but I understand how important it is to ALOT of people and that is fine. If athletes and others want to use that as the basis for their strength and give thanks then its all good in my book

last thing I will say on this and I hope this doesnt turn into a big debate about believing and not believing
