These big chain clowns are why my business is booming.All parts I remove are kept for the costumer(Most don't care because there is a trust between me and my long term customers)I have some as far back as 20 years.I am not saying that some independents aren't rip offs because you will always have those but you should find an independent mechanic that you trust(Word of mouth is the way to go)and stick with them.I do not advertise and never have.I have more work than I can handle.

pwherr you run an independent shop? I have worked for a couple chains and this is not surprising to me nor is it a big deal.

The mechanic probobly was too lazy to look for the fuel filter if it was in the gas tank. This usually requires taking out the whole backseat just to see it. It is not the service side of the business that is messed up it is the sales side if you ask me.

As was said above use someone you know or find someone you trust. It's not that hard it's not like there aren't enough people that fix cars out there All chains will offer you someone to sell you stuff with a smile on their face, you gotta dig deeper than that.
