Jury Duty

Been sitting in the Jury duty wating area since 8:30 this morning........glad I brought the ol' laptop as this is boring as hell.....just waiting to see if I get called on.....required to show up periodically (when they call us in) over the next two weeks and just sit and wait.....getting paid to sit here and play on the net instead of teaching my freshman is cool with me though

Any mallers ever been here done that?

Anybody atually ever served on a jury in a big case?

When I was in college, I got called for jury duty, but I got out of it. I said it was my last year & this is crucial for me to get a job when I graduate. I provided proof and I was excused. Ever since then, I have never received any notice to be a potential juror.

Once when I was 19 I was in the process of getting selected to hear a murder/rape downtown but the judge let me go since I had a reservation to go to Cancun in a couple of weeks.

Recently Ive been subpoenad 3 times as a witness on a counterfeit money case but every time I call the night before as instructed they tell me not to show up. Next date is November 4 I think.

my buddy just got off a drug case, ****** with a house full of drugs, said it was like 12 angry men, some other ****** was saying he had reasonable doubt because someone else could've put the stuff there......reminded me of that dave chappelle jury bit

I served on a jury in college, was even elected foreman by my other jurors, shortly after I registered to vote for the first time. I thought it was a powerful insight into the power of democracy, that myself and eleven other strangers would be called to reach a consensus on the guilt or innocence of another stranger. It's probably the most profound manifestation of egalitarian philosophy remaining in the Western world today, far more so than our current election process in the U.S. I look forward to repeating the experience again someday.

so when they were done, do they send alternates out or do you stay through the verdict?

After the entire case was presented, they selected the 2 alternates. They said we (the 2) could stay in the courtroom if we liked, to hear the verdict...of course, this was after the 12 got out of their deliberation...and who knew how long that would take

One week in was enough for me...I darted first chance and read the handout in the paper
