Just replaced my hot water heater

Only took 4 hours and only 2 trips to Home Depot

Pretty proud of myself

Very good Yankee.

That reminds me about 10 years ago I tried to replace the valve seats in my hot and cold faucets.

It took me about 4 hours for this simple half hour job. I went to the Hardware Store a total of 5 times. Had no idea what I was doing, but was bound and determined to fix them. The boys at the Hardware store were getting a kick out of it and I could see them rolling their eyes at me like I was a dumb ass, which I was.

Alright Yankee23! Were you able to drain the water out of the old tank? if not give this a try to prevent it so it won`t happen again. Every six months open the drain valve near the hot water heater tank bottom and drain 1 or 2 gallons of water from the hot water heater into a bucket or through a garden hose to remove any sediment that may have accumulated in the bottom of the tank. If you have hard water do it more often.

Exactly Vic, that's my plan

I think the previous owners never did that because about a 1/3 of the tank was filled with sediment and it wouldn't drain. Basically had to take the spicket apart and ream a clotheshanger until the sediment broke up enough to drain and then it was bucket by bucket until it was empty. Took about an hour to get it emptied and then it was smooth saiing.
